  From the COO's Desk
Within the last few weeks we have begun moving our laboratory operations into our brand new 30,000 ft. facility. This marks another chapter in the remarkable story of Q Laboratories. Those of you who have been clients for a long time have been part of the evolution of the company from a small regional laboratory to an internationally recognized leader in microbiology and analytical chemistry laboratory services.

  Q Labs Stands Alone
Q Laboratories is the first United States laboratory to achieve ISO 17025 Scope Accreditation for Virus screening in food samples, environmental samples and water. An assessment performed by A2LA resulted in approval for qualitative analysis of Norovirus and Hepatitis A and added these methods to Q Laboratories ISO 17025 Scope of Accreditation for Biological Methods.

  New Canadian Food Regs
Anyone manufacturing food products in Canada or importing to and/or exporting food products from Canada will have to deal with sweeping new regulations with the final publication of the new Safe Food for Canadians Regulations instituted by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).

  FDA Flexes Muscles
The Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) enacted in 2011 empowered the FDA to order mandatory recalls of food products determined to be potentially harmful to humans or pets due to adulteration such as pathogen contamination, or presence of allergens not indicated on the label. Before implementation of FSMA, the FDA could strongly suggest that a company issue a voluntary recall but did not have the authority to order a product to be pulled from shelves.
