Dear Mile High City –
The State Primary Election is still roughly two months away, and as your Clerk & Recorder, I want to make sure some things are crystal clear as we get closer to election day.
There’s a lot of noise about federal election interference, executive orders, agents at polls, etc., all of which are not only illegal and unconstitutional, but meant to discourage voters from participating. The constitution is clear that the States, not the federal government, oversee elections. Let me assure you that in Colorado, nothing has changed.
You can continue to expect the same level of excellence from Denver Elections you have come to count on: accessible, accurate and secure. We are prepared to enforce the law to keep it that way. If you see anything suspicious, or just have questions about the process, my office is always here for you at 720.913.VOTE (8683).
Mark your calendars for June 8. This is the date ballots will be mailed, ballot drop boxes will open, and is the deadline to make party affiliation changes before the State Primary Election.
If you are an unaffiliated voter, meaning you are not affiliated with a political party, you will receive two ballots: a Republican primary ballot and Democratic primary ballot. It is vital that you return only one of these ballots.
I also want to encourage you to take advantage of the convenience of returning your ballot to any of our secure ballot drop boxes, open 24/7 and located all over the city. Using secure drop boxes ensures that your ballot gets directly to us with no postage necessary and no standing in line to vote.
Finally, VOTE EARLY! No more excuses. Your vote counts and your vote matters.
Now is the time to make a plan to vote this June.
In Solidarity,
