Dear Mile High City -
You have likely seen headlines from President Trump’s recent speech on election fraud. As your Clerk & Recorder, I want to address his main claims directly with facts.
First, President Trump falsely claimed that China hacked state voter rolls and has the data of 220 million Americans. The simple reality is that voter data, in Colorado and most other states, is public record. Ours is accessible to anyone on the Secretary of State’s website in minutes. Our state database updates daily across more than a dozen state agencies to keep voter rolls accurate and secure. Denver’s Elections Director Todd Davidson recently sat down with Denver’s 9News to show step-by-step how easily accessible voter data is.
The president also said that electronic voting machines are extremely vulnerable to attack. This is just blatantly false. Our voting machines are never connected to the internet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth. Physical access is strictly monitored around the clock and limited to fully vetted, bipartisan election judges and Denver staff. All ballots are on paper and are audited and verified after every election.
These claims are baseless rhetoric designed to sow doubt in our democracy. There is no evidence supporting them, only a clear track record of secure, transparent elections in Denver. We are the gold standard nationwide in how elections are run.
Do not let this deter you. Make your plan to vote this November. If you have any questions about our process, I invite you to take a tour of our facilities. My staff and I will gladly show you firsthand how secure your vote really is.
You have the power, Denver. Make sure and use it.

| | | Celebrating a Successful 2026 State Primary Election | |
THANK YOU DENVER for making your voice heard at near-historic levels!
Final turnout for the June 30 primary election stands at 38.4% with more than 178,000 ballots returned. That is one of our highest turnout percentages for a primary election in recent years, and all the credit goes to you for showing up to the polls and casting your ballots!
In addition to our full-time staff who worked incredibly hard to make this a seamless election season, the Denver Clerk & Recorder employed over 500 seasonal election judges who supported a range of election-administration roles, including ballot security teams, signature verification judges, and tabulation judges, among many, many others!

| Clerk López Visits VSPCs During Primary Election | |
Clerk López strongly believes in showing up in the community he represents. Because of this philosophy, it was vitally important to him to visit a majority of our Voter Service and Polling Centers during the Primary Election to personally thank election judges in the field for their service to our city and to democracy. This is a tradition he has carried on through each of the elections he’s overseen in Denver and will continue this November!
This year, Clerk López also visited centers at college campuses at Regis University, the University of Denver, and the Auraria Campus!

On March 31, 2026, President Trump issued Executive Order 14399 directing the United States Postal Service (USPS) to initiate new standards for mail-in ballots, including provisions denying delivery in states that do not provide sensitive voter data to the federal government. The USPS announced new rules on May 29, confirming restrictive criteria for the delivery of mail-in ballots.
The Colorado County Clerks Association (CCCA), a membership organization of 63 Colorado County Clerks, sent a letter to the U.S. Postal Service strongly urging them to revise their proposed rule and reminding them that they play no part in running elections in our country. Ben Schler, DCR’s Senior Policy Advisor, drafted the letter which includes the following passage:
“CCCA values the longstanding partnership between Colorado election officials and the Postal Service. We urge USPS to withdraw the proposed participation-list requirements and continue to focus on its critical mission of providing secure, reliable, and timely delivery of election mail. We welcome the opportunity to work collaboratively with USPS on operational improvements that support ballot delivery while respecting the constitutional and statutory authority of states to administer elections.”
The Executive Order is facing several legal challenges, given that the U.S. Constitution outlines states’ full authority over election administration.
| | Fair Elections Fund Reminder | | |
Looking ahead to Denver’s 2027 Municipal Election, where Denver voters will go to the polls to elect Denver's mayor, City Council members, and other municipal offices, our City Clerk team is already supporting candidates with Campaign Finance needs. This includes administration of Denver’s Fair Elections Fund, which was created in 2018 to reduce the influence of money in politics and to encourage broader participation in local elections.
The voter-approved Fair Elections Fund (FEF) amplifies the power of everyday Denver residents by matching small dollar donations to qualified local candidates. Your $5 donation can turn into $50 to support a candidate you believe in!
Candidates who opt into the program must accept lower contribution limits, and in exchange, the first $50 they collect from a Denver resident is matched 9-to-1, empowering more people to get involved.
Fair Elections Fund candidates must also take part in at least one public debate organized by the Denver Clerk & Recorder.
You can view all the candidates who have filed to run for office in Denver using the Denver Clerk & Recorder Candidate and Initiative Tracker.
| | Clerk López Addresses National Conference of Elected Officials | | |
As a national leader in elections administration, Clerk López was invited to address the National Association of Latino Elected Officials (NALEO) at its 50th anniversary conference earlier this month.
Clerk López was a panelist for the session “The Frontlines of Democracy: State and Local Leaders in Action,” moderated by former United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julian Castro, where he shared Denver's innovative strategies for building a stronger, more accessible democracy. When it comes to voter engagement, transparency, and protecting our elections, Denver continues to lead the national conversation!
| | DCR Team Celebrates Pride! | |
Last month, DCR employees took part in the Denver Pride Parade representing our agency at this celebratory city-wide event!
A group of Denver Clerk & Recorder employees marched from Cheesman Park down 17th Avenue for Denver Pride, giving away Let’s Vote! fans along the parade route, encouraging people to vote, and honoring the significance of this important event.
Hear from DCR staff who marched in their own words:
"The sense of community was remarkable. People from all kinds of backgrounds showed up with genuine enthusiasm, creating a real feeling of connection throughout the crowd. What really brought that feeling to life for me was the reaction from people along the route. Each time our group turned onto a new street, the cheering rose up again, loud and full of joy. It surprised me every time and experiencing that level of support while standing with my colleagues made the moment even more meaningful. The crowd’s energy stayed with me long after the parade ended, making the day truly memorable.”
