Dear Mile High City –

The June 30^th State Primary Election is just around the corner and we’ve been preparing — as should you. There are some things I want to make sure you’re aware of.

First, the Colorado legislature is hard at work advancing a bill that would expand access to the ballot. The proposed legislation – HB 1113 – would among other things extend the window that you have to cast your vote. It would require that all 24-hour drop boxes open 22 days before an election statewide, (something Denver already does), rather than the current 15-day minimum mandate.  Additionally, ballots could be mailed to voters up to 29 days before Election Day, up from 22 days right now. As Clerk & Recorder expanding voter access is always a top priority, and I am supportive of these efforts.



Some of these changes are technical and part of regular updates, as well as additional protection from external threats to elections that Colorado clerks have also asked be included. You may have seen that allies of the Trump administration are drafting about executive orders and proposed laws that would attempt to give the president unprecedented power over elections.



Make no mistake – these challenges to weaken our democracy will fail. The Constitution is crystal clear on this. States run elections, not the Federal government, much less the President.

Another item you should know about is the governor’s apparent openness to granting some form of clemency to Tina Peters, a former county clerk who broke the law by gaining unauthorized access to election machines after the 2020 election. Ms. Peters is a felon and I - as well as other clerks, Unaffiliated, Republicans and Democrats alike - have urged Governor Polis to not reward those who without remorse willfully tried to sabotage and undermine our secure elections.

Ballots are set to go out in a little over two months on June 8^th. Please make your plan to vote now so you’re prepared for the June Primary election. Despite everything we may face, my promise to you is that my office will continue our work of providing safe, secure, and accurate elections at the level that Denver voters have come to expect.

Denver Clerk & Recorder hosts 14th Annual Marriage Marathon

On Friday, Feb. 13, the Denver Clerk & Recorder celebrated 42 couples who tied the knot as part of our annual Valentine's Day event!

We would like to extend our sincerest appreciation to our volunteer officiants including Denver County Judges Nicole Rodarte, Renee Goble, and David Blackett. Additionally, we would like to thank Maite Lara-Roca and Lizzbeth Bueno from DCR's Acceso Spanish-Language Advisory Board for officiating marriage ceremonies in Spanish.

Mark your calendars for Friday, June 5 when DCR will kick off Pride Month by hosting our second Pride Marriage Marathon!

DCR Supports New Denver Executive Order

The Denver Clerk & Recorder is committed to delivering safe, secure, and accessible services free from fear or intimidation.

In February 2026, Clerk & Recorder Paul D. López sent a letter supporting a Denver City Council ordinance banning law enforcement officers from wearing face masks while conducting operations, which passed 12-0. He also recently announced his support for Denver's Executive Order 152, prohibiting federal immigration action on city-owned and city-controlled property, including the Denver Clerk & Recorder's Office.

Athmar Park Gets a New Ballot Drop Box

Denver Elections recently installed a brand new 24-hour drop box in Denver's Athmar Park neighborhood. 

The new ballot box is located outside the Athmar Park Library at 1055 S. Tejon St. This box will be open and accepting ballot beginning with the June 30 State Primary Election. Stay tuned for more information about a community gathering to celebrate Denver's newest ballot drop box.

2026 State Primary Election Dates Finalized

On March 22, we will be 100 days away from the June 30, 2026 State Primary Election!

The dates and locations for that election have been finalized and can be found on our website. With 47 drop boxes conveniently located around Denver, plus 16 in-person Voter Service & Polling Centers and 4 planned stops for the Voter Coach Mobile Voting Unit, voting has never been easier.

Denver Elections Job Fair Coming Next Month

If you feel the call of civic responsibility, Denver Elections is just the place for you!

Our 2026 Job Fair is happening at 9 a.m. on April 23 at the Denver Clerk & Recorder Atrium, 200 W. 14th Ave.

Positions available include VSPC judges, ballot processing judges, customer service positions, and many others! Most assignments are Monday through Friday, with some Saturdays required. Assignments pay between $19.50 and $23.50 an hour.

DCR Closed for César Chávez Day

The Denver Clerk & Recorder will be closed Monday, March 30, in observation of César Chávez Day. All services will be unavailable that day. The office will reopen at 8 a.m. Tuesday, March 31.

DCR Welcomes A New Chief Deputy Public Trustee

The Denver Clerk & Recorder is thrilled to announce that our own Rachel Duran-Zimmer was recently promoted to Chief Deputy Public Trustee!

Rachel is an integral part of our office and will help manage the daily operation of our Public Trustee team. She helps ensure our office remains compliant with state statutes regarding property foreclosures and the release of deeds of trust.

DCR Supporting North High School's Production of Suffs: The Young are at the Gate

Denver students are bringing an important chapter of civic history to life!

North High School’s Black Masque Theatre has been selected as one of only twelve schools in the nation to receive a grant to produce Suffs: The Young Are at the Gate. This powerful production tells the story of the young activists who fought for women’s suffrage and the passage of the 19th Amendment — while also exploring the differing voices and unresolved questions that shaped the movement. 

The right to vote was hard-won and continues to be shaped by each generation. The Denver Clerk & Recorder is proud to stand with Denver students engaging with the history of civic participation and the power of young voices in democracy. 

Join the DCR and the North High School community in supporting these talented students and reflecting on the ongoing journey toward a more inclusive democracy. The League of Women Voters will be hosting a voter registration event at the production.
