Happy May, Denver!
We’re excited to share that we are officially changing our name from “The Office of the Clerk & Recorder” to simply “Denver Clerk & Recorder.” This rebrand is part of our ongoing effort to make the office more accessible, memorable, and cohesive. We partnered with local firm Rassman Design, known for its work with several City & County of Denver agencies, to help bring this new look to life. Over the coming week, you’ll notice updates to our logo and branding across all platforms. You can already see it reflected in the header of this newsletter. Thank you for your continued support and patience as we make the transition from OCR to DCR.

We started the month of May in community at the 5th Annual Cinco de Mayo en Westwood. As a proud native of West Denver, this annual celebration – honoring Mexican identity, resistance, and pride, as well as the rich history of the Batalla de Puebla – is especially meaningful to me. At our booth, we helped Denverites register to vote, update their voter information, and shared important details about the upcoming 2025 Denver Coordinated Election. Thank you to everyone who stopped by; we truly enjoyed connecting with you!

Looking ahead, a quick but important reminder: document recording fees will increase to $43 starting July 1, 2025, in accordance with changes to Colorado state law. This change applies to all county-recorded documents, including liens, lien releases, foreclosure documents, property and quit claim deeds. To help prepare for this change, our office will not require appointments for document recording throughout the month of June.
Finally, we’re excited to announce we are hosting another no appointment needed marriage day on Loving Day, June 12. The day commemorates the 1967 Supreme Court decision in Loving v. Virginia, which legalized interracial marriage in the United States. Again, no appointment is needed, just make sure to visit our marriage and civil unions page to read marriage license requirements and complete your application.
Thank you for staying engaged and informed. We’re here to serve you – every step of the way.
In solidarity,

Hon. Paul D. López

Our team has just wrapped up a two-year project to redact personally identifiable information from millions of public records. This effort began when Clerk López took the bold step of inviting Denver Auditor Tim O’Brien to audit our office – promoting transparency, security and accessibility across our extensive records collection.
The result? A comprehensive review of 90 years’ worth of records, spanning from 1935 to 2021. Now completed, this project ensures that Denver residents can access public records with confidence, knowing their personal information is protected. Click below to hear from Clerk López and our Records team about the work behind reviewing millions of public records spanning nine decades!
