  • Whitefish Bay Library TALKS with Jeff Aikin and Tom Fehring 6:30pm - 8:00pm. Historic Whitefish Bay: A Celebration of Architecture and Character is the newest addition to The History Press. The book, which includes a color insert and more than 100 images, is written by local authors Jefferson J. Aikin and Thomas H. Fehring, is set to release on October 16, 2017. Incorporated in 1892, Whitefish Bay is a pleasant, verdant village that is home to more than fourteen thousand people. More than half of its five thousand houses and other structures have been deemed historic or architecturally important. Even casual passersby can attest to the architectural significance of these buildings, and while the personal history attached to them is less apparent, it is no less dramatic. Their walls retain the stories of their remarkable inhabitants, from the outhouse where the first village president disappeared in 1899 with $20,000 in public funds to the lakeside Beaux-Arts mansion built by a Schlitz Brewing Company heir with eight varieties of Italian marble. Jefferson J. Aikin and Thomas H. Fehring examine these landmark treasures and the legacy of the residents they help preserve. About the authors: Jefferson J. Aikin, a former journalist for the Milwaukee Sentinel and the Associated Press, is president of the Whitefish Bay Historic Preservation Commission and a member of the Whitefish Bay Historical Society. Thomas H. Fehring's previous work with Arcadia Publishing and the History Press includes Images of Whitefish Bay and Chronicles of Whitefish Bay. He is co-founder of the Southeastern Wisconsin chapter of the Society for Industrial Archeology and a member of the Historic Preservation Commission, as well as the Whitefish Bay Historical Society

TrashTrash and Recycling Program Changes

You are invited to attend the upcoming Public Works Committee Meetings which will address changes to the Trash and Recycling Programs.

The next meeting will be Monday, December 11, at 6:00pm at the Whitefish Bay Library Library Program Room, 5420 N. Marlborough Dr. The topic of that meeting will be the exemptio n application process for automated curbside trash collection  requirements. All meeting dates and agendas are posted here and updated as information becomes available: http://www.wfbvillage.org/trashrecycle

Trash and Recycling Program Information is on the Village Website  here which will be updated following each decision about the program.

Two carts, the standard sized 95-gallon and a smaller 65-gallon are on display at the Whitefish Bay Public Library for you to examine (note the actual Whitefish Bay trash carts will be gray). There is a preliminary public information sheet available at the carts, or for download here . Please be advised this information is accurate as of 12/8/17.

Village Board Decision Status update as of November 21, 2017: The Village Board authorized the 95-gallon cart, gray in color with a gray lid, to be standard for the new automated trash collection program. As part of the initial cart distribution, residents will each receive the standard 95-gallon cart (same size as the recycling cart provided by the Village). Residents will have the option of requesting a smaller, 65-gallon cart. A smaller 32-gallon cart may be permitted in cases of exemptions.  Any future changes in trash cart size will be at cost to the resident, including when a property is sold. Lastly, additional carts will be permitted to be purchased at a cost, plus an administrative fee. All carts will remain the property of the Village.

World AIDS Day is observed each year on December 1 and is an opportunity for people to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV, and remember those who have died. HIV stands for human immunodeficiency virus. It is the virus that can lead to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) if not treated. Unlike some other viruses, the human body can't get rid of HIV completely and once you get HIV, you have it for life. An estimated 1,122,900 adults and adolescents were living with HIV at the end of 2015 in the United States.

HIV can be transmitted by:
  • Sexual Contact
  • Sharing needles to inject drugs
  • Mother to baby during pregnancy or breastfeeding
Protect yourself from HIV:
  • Get tested once or more often if you are at risk
  • Use condoms every time you have sex
  • Limit your number of sex partners
  • Don't inject drugs, if you do, do not share needles
  • Get tested and treated for other sexually transmitted diseases
  • If you think you've been exposed to HIV within the last 3 days, ask a health care provider about postexposure prophylaxis (PEP) right away. PEP can prevent HIV, but it must be started within 72 hours.
Currently, there is no effective cure for HIV. With proper medical care, HIV can be controlled. Treatment for HIV is called antiretroviral therapy (ART). If taken the right way, every day, ART can dramatically prolong the lives of many people infected with HIV, keep them healthy, and greatly lower their chance of infecting others.

Now that the weather has turned cold, many people like to let their vehicles warm up before driving. Thieves know this and take it as an opportunity to steal vehicles. Please do not leave your vehicle running with the keys in it.

Please be aware of any packages shipping to your home, and have someone bring them in or keep an eye on them for you until you can retrieve them. There is a new Amazon lockbox option at Whole Foods on Prospect Avenue in Milwaukee.
