Tourism Reopening Guidance

Tourism Economy Guidance is now available online

The guidelines, issued last night by the Welsh Government, outline what businesses need to consider / implement to achieve a safe re-opening of our tourism sector and to minimise risk to ourselves, our employees, our visitors and our local communities.

We, like our businesses, were under the impression that there would be official Welsh Government guidelines produced for each sector. We hadn't expected there to be multiple links to multiple sources.

MWT will be working through the guidelines and will split the guidance into sectors and publish it on our MWT Members website later today. Hopefully this will make the information easier to digest - we will let you know once this has been done.

If you are following links from the Welsh Government website, please be aware that content on third party websites may refer to reopening dates in England.

We are advising all of our members to read all the Welsh Government Tourism Economy Guidance - sit down with a strong cup of tea / coffee 😊
Re-opening Checklist

Things to think about before re-opening - Welsh Government checklist for tourism and hospitality businesses:

Planning to re-open - key points to consider:

1. Phased re-opening timescales

  • Travel restrictions are lifted enabling outdoor attractions to re-open on 6th July
  • Self-contained accommodation can take booking from 13th July - all sectors including touring vans and motorhomes
  • Camping, bars and restaurants TBC - a fast track review is currently being undertaken by WG

2. Safe return to work - Coronavirus Regulations require all businesses to take all reasonable measures to ensure that a distance of 2 metres is observed while working.

3. Test, Trace, Protect Guidance for Employers: The strategy in Wales is to slow the spread of the virus, protect our health and care systems and save lives.

4. Sector Guidance Information – please note that sector guidance information is not a substitute for legal advice which you should consider obtaining where necessary.

Guidance does not supersede any legal obligations including in relation to health and safety, employment or equalities.
Reopening Holiday Parks, Camping & Touring Parks and Group Accommodation Advice

The guidelines issued last night may answer some members queries over group accommodation and camping/touring and holidays home parks:

"Caravan and touring sites will need to ensure the strict application of industry guidance on shared waste disposal and water points.

All shared facilities, aside from water and disposal points will remain closed including toilets, shower blocks, laundry, restaurants, nightclubs, swimming pools, children’s play areas, bars, cafes, etc.

Caravan parks are closed by law so holiday caravan owners will not be able to access their caravans until 13th July, not even for day visits.

Accommodation can only be let to members of the same household"
