Hi David,

It's finally here. I can't believe it! My new book (The Joy of Actually Giving a F*ck) is officially out today.

As a writer, it's actually quite difficult to convey exactly how I feel when a new book of mine is published. There's a mixture of emotions all swirling around in me.

There's excitement, like a giving birth of sorts of a new thing, a creation, something that's a deep part of me that's found a way into the world.

And there's a nervous feeling, apprehension mixed in there. What will people think? It's been all me so far, plus a fab editorial team at Hay House, writing, shaping, editing. No one outside of a very small circle of family and friends has read a single world. So I feel some apprehension. We all want to be accepted, after all. It's human nature.

And then there's a bit of relief. After the best part of a years' work, it's finally out there. In some ways it doesn't actually feel real yet.

A journalist asked me the other day why I wrote the book and then, "Why should we give a f*ck?" I answered both questions in one.

Because there's too much not giving a fck in the world. What could life be like if we all gave a bit more of a fck? About each other!

That was my motivation for writing the book. And I soooo enjoyed writing it.

It's light, quirky, yet also informative and heartfelt. You'll learn about how small acts can have a big impact; how giving a fck actually changes your brain in some really cool ways; how helping others affects your nervous system, your heart, arteries, immune system, and even ageing ... right down at the genetic level. There's some cool science that says so.

And I've shared some heartfelt stories too, and honest ones, where I've fallen short myself. We are all human, after all, and it would serve us well to be a bit kinder to ourselves too.

In fact, that's the longest chapter in the book - the one about being kind to yourself. Why that matters, how it's healthy, and a heap of ways that we can practice it. Also why we feel guilty about being kind to yourself, and a bit about how self-kindness can be fierce. Que roaring lion!!

Anyway, I'll let you read it for yourself, lest I end up giving too much away in this email and spoiling the best parts.

Oh, and if you want some live talk, I'm doing two official Live in-person talks , where I'll be diving into the book content for the first time. The first is tonight (depending on when you read this email) and the next is tomorrow night. Here's the details:

GLASGOW - 9th July - Here's a link to check it our or book a ticket

LONDON - 10th July - Here's a link to check it out or book a ticket

Thanks so much for your support of my work over the years. It does mean a lot!

If you feel motivated to, I'd be extremely grateful if you could leave a review and even share it with your friends. Let's spread some kindness like it's confetti at a unicorn parade (that's a line from the book).

Have a great day!

David
