In the year since the enactment of the Virginia Clean Economy Act, Virginia has been on its way to achieving 100 percent renewable energy by 2050, aided by a planned 5,200 megawatts offshore wind by 2035. As a testament to VCEA's success, Virginia has become one of the national leaders in offshore wind, spurring economic development and workforce training programs across the state.

The US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management is starting its environmental review for the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind Commercial, or CVOW-C, project. This is a big deal because, if approved, it will be the first commercial offshore wind farm in Virginia’s Atlantic Ocean waters.

Secretary of Interior Deb Haaland, Governor Ralph Northam and US Senator Tim Kaine spoke in Norfolk on Thursday to announce an environmental review for the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind Commercial project.

Virginia Beach Mayor Bobby Dyer’s commission for an $8 billion windfarm will include several international partners. The commission, chaired by Vice Mayor Jim Wood, will include a broad cross-section of stakeholders, including representatives from Dominion Energy, Virginia Beach, US Navy, US Coast Guard, Tidewater Community College, and more.
