Jobs are Coming to Hampton Roads’ Offshore Wind Industry. Who Will Fill Them?
For people with hands-on skills and ambitions to work in the burgeoning offshore wind energy industry, hundreds of Hampton Roads jobs will open up in a couple years. In 2023, major equipment manufacturing will begin to support Dominion Energy’s eventual offshore wind energy farm, which will be some 180 turbines strong. Short-term construction and long-term technician positions will be up for grabs.
Green Shipping Line Proposes US Feeder Ships to Deliver Offshore Wind Components
US-based Green Shipping Line is proposing to build the first of what it hopes will be a fleet of feeder ships to transport wind turbine components from US Atlantic coast ports to new Atlantic coast wind farms, according to Percy Pyne, Chairman and CEO.

Virginia, once again, has been named by CNBC as the best state in the country to do business, extending a reign that began two years ago, before the COVID-19 pandemic. Governor Northam accepted the award from the state-owned port, a critical asset for Virginia’s economy and a potential linchpin for an emerging industry for offshore wind power, as well as the supply chain that supports it.
‘WINDSday’: Free Concert Series in Virginia Beach to Raise Awareness for Renewable Energy
Virginia Beach is offering a summertime, free concert series with a push to promote renewable energy off the coast of the city. Although construction won’t begin until 2024, Virginia Beach is already preparing for the coming of 176 commercial wind turbines on a nearly 120,000-acre section of the Atlantic Ocean, which starts at 27 miles off the coast.
