TOY DRIVE
**Saturday, November 19th**
SAL deputies, alongside SAL youth members & SSO personnel, will be stationed throughout Sacramento County at various participating Walmart locations asking the community to help brighten the holiday season for families in need by donating new/unwrapped toys. Volunteers are welcomed.

DOWNTOWN PARADE
**Saturday, December 10th**
The SAL/YSU unit and the Sheriff's Office will be decorating their vehicles and participating in the 38th Annual Santa Parade presented by Bonneville Sacramento.

STAR 6 FOUNDATION
GOLF TOURNAMENT
The Sheriff's Activities League was a proud sponsor of this year's STAR 6 Foundation golf tournament held on October 3rd. SAL Sergeant Sam Flores took his golf skills to the course, as SAL Deputies Bakarich and Briggs welcomed the golfers with a cool sweet treat from the SAL ice cream truck. FUNDRAISER FOR
SPECIAL OLYMPICS
The SAL/YSU unit and Special Olympic athletes enjoyed an afternoon of serving the Citrus Heights and Elk Grove Texas Roadhouse Restaurant patrons a free delicious lunch on October 24th. All "tips" received by the servers benefitted the Special Olympics Northern California chapter. A friendly competition was held to see which of the two Sacramento County locations could raise the most money for the Special Olympics and the winning location was...Elk Grove by just over $120. Combined both locations raised over $6,400!!
COMMUNITY EVENTS
HAPPY SALOWEEN
SAL deputies were busy all month long making this Halloween season a spooktacular SALOWEEN for children throughout Sacramento County! SAL Deputies Wojnar & Briggs designed a mobile haunted house which provided tricks and treats to the youth of Rio Linda, Gold River Discovery Center, and Bancroft Elementary. Thanks to the efforts of these deputies, SAL hopes to bring the SALOWEEN trailer to more locations in 2023!
RED RIBBON WEEK
OCTOBER 24TH-28TH
SAL deputies presented to the students at McClellan Charter School the dangers of vaping and reminded them to "Say No to Drugs" during a Red Ribbon Week assembly.
Students at Del Dayo Elementary enjoyed their Red Ribbon Week visit with SAL deputies- especially the ice cream truck!
SAL Deputy Hauck greeted students at Beitzel Elementary School with "Say No to Vape" bracelets while SAL Sergeant Sam Flores reminded students to "STOP" and think about the dangers of tobacco during Red Ribbon Week.
AFTER THE BELL
The SAL/YSU unit visited the Sunrise Recreation & Park District's after school program held at Barrett Ranch Elementary to discuss with students about when to call 9-1-1 and showed them the equipment a deputy wears while on the job. Students enjoyed a tour of the SAL/YSU vehicles at the end of the visit.
HONORING THE FALLEN
Saturday, October 8th, two fallen Sheriff's Office deputies were remembered at their respective memorial tournaments- Deputy Jeff Mitchell's Wiffle Ball Tournament and Deputy Mark Stasyuk's Fishing Tournament. SAL sponsored a youth team who battled hard with their bats and came in 4th place at the wiffle ball tournament. Youth anglers celebrated their first ever tournament wins at the fishing tournament. The SAL humvee and barbeque were a big hit with the youth anglers on an expectedly warm day. SAL enjoyed supporting both of these outdoor events for the Sacramento youth.
TRIBUTE TO LAW ENFORCEMENT
On October 14th, SAL Deputy Wojnar attended St. Michael's Episcopal Day School's Tribute to Law Enforcement Assembly. Former Sacramento County Sheriff John McGinness was the keynote speaker for the event.
Students were thrilled to get a first hand look inside the SAL Camaro and the SED BEARCAT.
BRANDON'S CROSSROADS FOUNDATION
SAL Deputy Bakarich attended the Brandon's Crossroads Foundation Trunk or Treat on Sunday, October 30th. The event was held to honor Brandon's love of restoring classic cars and raise awareness of the importance of tissue and organ donation amongst youth. PROGRAMS IN ACTION
Florin Law Academy (FLA)
FLA ventured beyond classroom learning in October. Some highlights were:
*Visit to the California State Capitol building
*Visit to the Sacramento Superior Courthouse for a mock trial
*Visit to the Sacramento County Main Jail
*Visit to California State University, Chico
*Warrant writing class by Sergeants Gandhi & Flick
*Internet Crimes Against Children presentation by Detectives Le & Benjamin

YOUNG MARINES
The Young Marines were active in the community during the month of October. On October 15th, the Young Marines assisted in hosting a youth safety fair at the Antelope Walmart. On October 22nd, before dawn, the Young Marines travelled to the State Capitol building to help set up for the Iron Kids Race. The Sacramento unit continues to grow, progress and learn important life skills.

Youth Leadership Council (YLC)
SAL members in the Youth Leadership Council (YLC), organized the youth safety fair held on Saturday, October 15th. The safety fair was a free community resource event aimed to provide local families in the Sacramento region with information of services availabe within their community. YLC members enjoyed interacting with the public and especially handing out ice cream from the SAL ice cream truck. On Saturday, October 29th, YLC crafted a spooky halloween exhibit hosted at Bancroft Elementary. YLC members enjoyed planning out their exhibit and executing their horrifying costumes.

S.H.O.C.K.
The 22-2 S.H.O.C.K. class continued to meet twice a week during the month of October. SAL Deputy Walls facilitated multiple group discussions focusing on choices, consequences and goal setting. S.H.O.C.K. mentors provided the youth participants with one-on-one mentorships, both during classroom sessions and outside of the program. The 22-2 S.H.O.C.K. class heard from human trafficking detectives, participated in use of force scenarios with Sacramento Police Department's virtual reality simulator, attended a mock trial at the Sacramento Superior Courthouse and toured the Main Jail.

Best Buddies
Antelope & Center High
SAL Records Officer Tammy Hinds met with both the Center and Antelope High School Best Buddies Chapters in October. The Antelope High Best Buddies had a great time raising funds at their homecoming dance and attended their trunk or treat. SAL went to support our friends from Best Buddies as they participated in Unified Sports. SAL would like to congratulate RO Hinds on her acquisition of a $5,000 grant to assist Best Buddies in sending local Sacramento members to an out-of-state conference in 2023!

Smiles at Lunch (S.A.L.)
Fortune School
SAL Sergeant Sam Flores and SAL deputies spent their afternoon with the students of Fortune School in Sacramento on October 5th. Students enjoyed seeing all the SAL specialty vehicles and especially enjoyed the free raffle at the end of their recess. SAL would like to thank the Sheriff's Toy Project for providing toys for the S.A.L. raffle.

On October 12th, SAL/YSU deputies surprised the students of Pacific Elementary School with a lunchtime visit. Students enjoyed listening to music played on the SAL humvee and exploring the inside of the SAL/YSU vehicles.
SAL/YSU deputies visited Riverview STEM Academy in Rancho Cordova during their lunchtime recess. SAL deputies gave students ice cream from the SAL ice cream truck, while Sheriff's Office personnel from the K-9, SCOUT and SED units showcased their specialty equipment. It was a great day!
Future Farmers of America (FFA)
Petting Zoo
The Florin and Sheldon High School FFA Chapters hosted a petting zoo at the newly constructed Florin High School barn. SAL Deputy Wojnar assisted students in executing their plan to bring students together and enjoy meeting new farm animals. SAL is excited to see both of these school's programs grow with the collaboration of SAL Deputy Wojnar and their directors.

FLY FIT
During the month of October, SAL Deputy Bakarich continued to collaborate with the Fly Fit Elk Grove chapter.

On October 27th, the Fly Fit basketball camp participants proudly wore their SAL basketball jerseys as they learned the rules of the game & scrimmaged against one another.
