Consolidated Vehicle Procurement Program provides statewide transit opportunities

The Consolidated Vehicle Procurement program is investing over $57 million in local communities this year allowing them to procure paratransit vehicles for downstate transit agencies and nonprofits in a consolidated manner. The program is in the process of delivering over 500 vehicles to 110 providers. IDOT's consolidated procurement of vehicles ensures uniformity of meeting specifications, adds efficiency and volume cost savings to the process, and takes the burden off transit providers, particularly for smaller agencies and non-profits.

It’s back. For the second consecutive year, the Illinois Department of Transportation is offering you an opportunity to highlight how transportation connects communities with a photo contest. The public is invited to submit original photos that demonstrate why transportation is important to them.

“Countless modes of transportation are available throughout the entire state, and we want the public to show us the positive impact they are having on your community,” said Illinois Transportation Secretary Gia Biagi. “It could be a picture of your favorite trail you bike or hike, a bridge, road, train, bus, airplane or waterway. Anything that keeps Illinois moving, we’d love to see your photography skills at work.”

Region 3, District 5: The ramp from northbound I-57 to eastbound I-74 and the I-74 eastbound exit ramp at Prospect Avenue in Champaign has reopened. This is the third new ramp to be completed as part of the overallI-57/74 interchange reconstruction project.

The $258.1 million multiyear rehabilitation project will convert the former cloverleaf interchange to a modern design that includes two flyover ramps to improve safety and traffic flow in the region: Eastbound I-74 to northbound I-57 and westbound I-74 to southbound I-57. A third, auxiliary lane will also be added to both directions of I-74 between Prospect and Duncan Roads to better accommodate increased capacity needs in the region.
