"5 Ways Technology Will Change How You Age"
Brian Carlisle, Hartford Funds
Sponsored by Ohio AAOP Gold Content Partner
Learn how technology can help you stay mobile, healthy, and connected as you age.

For the next generation of retirees, one question will trump all others: How do you add life to longer lives?
As people live longer, and spend more time in retirement, the challenge will be to get more out of those years. How do you find a rewarding second career; stay close with friends and family; maintain independence and mobility; embrace new experiences?

Hartford Funds partners with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) AgeLab on its research and outreach.

Individuals with Stroke Speak About AFOs. We Need Team Talk for a Better Walk, Jennifaye Brown, PT, PhD, NCS
Stroke-related leg weakness requires an ankle foot orthosis (AFO) and long-term use may signify persistent impairment, resulting in chronic illness perception. Individuals with unilateral stroke (IwS) ages 30-65 walking at least 10 feet with custom hinged or solid AFO for at least one month discussed AFO impact on recovery.

Jennifaye V. Brown, PT, PhD, NCS: BA-Psychology (Emory University), MS-Physical Therapy (University of Miami-FL) & PhD-Exercise Science (University of South Carolina). Dr. Brown has 31 years of clinical experience and presents acquired brain injury courses on adult neurologic assessment and treatment for gait analysis and training and AFO fabrication. Her research explores perceptions of AFO fabrication, modification and maintenance and optimization via 3D printing. As an American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) member, she is an Advanced Credentialed Clinical Instructor (Clinical Instructor Education Board), three 10-year term neurologic clinical specialist (American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties), and 2020 Graduate of the Fellowship in Education Leadership. Currently, Dr. Brown is an Associate Professor at Charleston Southern University’s developing Physical Therapy Program. Memberships: Neurology Section & SC Chapter - APTA, American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, Aerobics & Fitness Association of America, Neuro-Developmental Treatment Association; and she is a Certified Aging in Place Specialist - National Association of Home Builders.
