ADVOCACY CORNER
Ohio-ACC at the Ohio Statehouse
The Ohio-ACC held its Legislative Day on May 7. Building relationships with state lawmakers helps to ensure that the Ohio General Assembly remains informed about issues facing clinicians and patients. We were honored to have
Lindsay Davis address our group to share her advocacy story. Special thanks to
Monica Hueckel and
Kelsey Hardin with the OSMA and
Dustin Holfinger with AHA.
We addressed three items in the budget bill,
HB 166: Tobacco to 21, Telemedicine, Task Force on Physician, Nursing, and Allied Health Care Work Force, and SB 14/HB 63 addressing transparency of drug pricing. Subsequently, the Ohio House has retained the basic language from Governor DeWine’s proposed budget (HB 166) that would raise the legal age of sale for tobacco (including e-cigarettes) to 21. The measure is now being considered by the Ohio Senate. The Ohio Legislature has an opportunity to reduce tobacco-use, the No. 1 preventable cause of death–but they need to hear from you!
Take Action
Please take a moment, and send your state senator a personalized letter urging his/her support:

ACC PAC Challenge
The ACC Political Action Committee (ACCPAC) has launched an
ACCPAC State Giving Challenge that will conclude on Sunday, May 26 at 11:59 pm EDT. ACCPAC is the non-partisan political voice of the College, formed by members, for members.
Let's make the Ohio-ACC fully represented as contributors to the ACCPAC. The amount is not the important thing -- but rather being invested. It is easy to contribute at
https://www.accpacweb.org.
Why Contribute?
- Congressional actions impact the delivery of health care in every practice. ACCPAC works to ensure the College remains a major player in legislative discussions important to the cardiovascular care community.
- There’s strength in numbers. Other specialty groups have better-funded PACs, giving them an advantage at the decision-making table. Out of over 35,000 eligible ACC members, only 3 percent contribute to ACCPAC.
Contributing is EASY:
- Go to the ACCPAC website: https://www.accpacweb.org
- Sign in with your http://www.acc.org credentials
- Click on the Contribute button
- Donate
- Encourage colleagues to follow your advocacy lead!
Whether this is your first time giving to ACCPAC or you have already contributed this year, please give now in support of this challenge. Your contribution will help us come out on top and amplify the voice of ACC. Thank you in advance.
Contact Us
If Gwen Goldfarb, our chapter executive, or I can be of assistance to you,
please let us know.
Sincerely,
Sanjay

Please Approve: Ohio-ACC Bylaws Amendment
|
|
The Ohio ACC Board of Trustees has approved an amendment to the Bylaws simplifying criteria for District Trustee selection
.
Please take a moment to indicate if you approve the amendment indicated below; the changes are highlighted in orange.
|
|
Do you approve the proposed change to the bylaws? (see below)
|
|
|
|
Summary of Proposed Changes to the Ohio-ACC Bylaws
The intent of the change is to facilitate the goal of maintaining balanced representation among private and academic practice. For context - in 2008 the Board responded to changes in the academic landscape by modifying language in the Bylaws to reference specific academic programs for the Dayton region (District 5). Programs have further evolved since that time. After discussion, it was decided to omit references to specific programs for Districts 2-6, and instead use the criteria of "medical school faculty" for one representative and "from the practicing community" for the other.
ARTICLE II BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Section 2. Composition
. The Board of Trustees shall consist of the officers of the Chapter, The Board of Trustees shall consist of the officers of the Chapter, eighteen (18) District Trustees, which shall be comprised of two (2) District Trustees from Districts II, III, IV,
V
, and VI, and four (4) from District I. In Districts II, III, IV, V, and VI, one trustee shall be elected from a medical school
full-time
faculty and one from the practicing community in that District. In District 1, one trustee will be selected from the
full-time
faculty of Case Western Reserve University/MetroHealth, one from Case Western Reserve University/University Hospitals, one from The Cleveland Clinic and one from the practicing community.
In District V, one trustee will be selected from either the Dayton Kettering or Grandview academic programs and one from the practicing community in that District.
The Pediatric, Cardiovascular Surgical, Active Duty Military, and VA Trustees are Statewide, rather than District, representatives and will be voted into office by the entire membership. It is understood that the Active Duty Military Trustee may be deployed and could identify an alternate to serve while deployed. The chairs of the Cardiovascular Team Committee, the Fellow-in-Training Committee, and the Cardiovascular Administrator Committee will be voting members of the Board of Trustees. The chair of the Government Relations Committee and the chair of the Medicare Carrier Liaison Committee will serve as ex-officio, non-voting members of the Board of Trustees.
