Dear OARRS User,

On June 9th, 2026, OARRS turned on provider authorization, meaning to be successfully authorized, the credentials (Professional License Number OR Personal DEA Number OR National Provider Identification (NPI) Number) submitted by your software system must be accurate and match the information on your OARRS account. Any user who uses the EMR to access OARRS has officially lost access to OARRS if they never registered for an OARRS account, or if their account was never updated to reflect current credentials.

We appreciate the patience and understanding of those reaching out to the OARRS support team over the past month as we have received a high volume of requests for assistance.

Now that provider authorization has been turned on, here are a few troubleshooting tips we would like to share should you have difficulty logging into OARRS:

  1. If you are trying to log into your account and are not receiving a password link or are receiving any type of error, please email OARRS for assistance at support@pharmacy.ohio.gov. It may be that you have never registered and need to register now, but it could also be that the system was unable to verify your identity (such as with an unverified email address) and will require OARRS administrative staff to reset your password for you. Registering for another account when you already have one only creates confusion in the system as email addresses, license numbers, and DEA numbers can only be used on a single account.

  2. If you lose access to OARRS while working within your electronic medical records (EMR), please double check your access by logging into your account on the website at https://ohio.pmpaware.net/login. If you can log into your account online, this suggests that your EMR is submitting the incorrect credentials. This is particularly common with pharmacist license numbers having the leading ‘0’ being dropped. Any type of credential mismatch will block access to OARRS. If it is determined that your information is being sent incorrectly by the EMR system, we recommend working with your IT team and using online access through AWARE until corrections can be made.

As always, please email support@pharmacy.ohio.gov if you have any questions or concerns regarding your OARRS account.

Thank you for all that you do to keep Ohioans safe and healthy.

Sincerely,

Steven W. Schierholt

OARRS Updates

Reminder: ASAP 5.0 Submission Requirements Starting July 1, 2026

Ohio dispensers will be required to submit electronic dispensation data via the ASAP 5.0 format beginning July 1, 2026. The rules can be found in Ohio Administrative Codes 4729:8-3-02 and 4729:8-3-03. A dispenser includes both pharmacies that dispense medications as well as any prescriber that personally furnishes reportable medications to their patients.

About a week before the July 1st deadline, OARRS will turn on warnings to alert dispensers when specific fields are not compliant with the ASAP 5.0 requirements. If your pharmacy needs assistance with data submissions, please contact Bamboo’s PMP Clearinghouse at 844-464-4767.

The Data Submission Guide for Dispensers can be found here.

If an Ohio dispenser has made reasonable attempts to meet the July 1, 2026 deadline but is unable to comply, they may request an extension from the Board’s Executive Director. If you need to request an extension, please complete the form found here.

Medical Resident Access to OARRS

Medical residents that need access to OARRS during their training will need to register for an OARRS account. Since residents work under the facility DEA number, they will not be able to register as a Physician, as the DEA number on an account must be unique to the prescriber. To accommodate this, they should select the role of “Medical Resident with Prescriptive Authority” which does not require a DEA number to be entered.

After obtaining full a full medical license, the Medical Resident account should be updated to “Physician (MD/DO)” which allows for personal DEA numbers to be added. The account holder can make this change one time. Email the OARRS staff at support@pharmacy.ohio.gov should further assistance be necessary.

Reminder: Do Not Share OARRS Accounts

OARRS continues to receive communication from individuals indicating they are registering or updating an account for another individual. OARRS accounts are intended only for use by the individual registered to the account and are not authorized to be used by anyone else, including office staff, an employer, or an employee. Sharing of credentials is a violation of ORC 4729.86 and could result in criminal penalties and/or loss of access to OARRS.

A prescriber or pharmacist may use a delegate to run OARRS on their behalf; however, each must have their own account. The delegate will request their supervisor by entering the email address on the supervisor’s OARRS account. Once the supervisor has accepted the delegate’s request, the delegate may request OARRS reports.
