Ohio Grown: Student Chef Showcase
The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce is hosting a new, student-centered Ohio Grown: Student Chef Showcase that encourages student interest in nutrition and culinary arts career pathways through the hands-on experience of developing and cooking an original school lunch recipe. Student competition recipes will highlight the sourcing and consumption of fresh and local foods by incorporating Ohio Harvest of the Month fruits and vegetables.
Under the guidance of an adult supervisor, each student team will develop an original lunch entrée that features at least one Harvest of the Month item and includes a nutrient and cost analysis of their recipe. The analysis should demonstrate that the recipe can be replicated and served in cafeterias across the state.
A Department panel will review submitted recipes. The five top-scoring teams will receive a reimbursement stipend of up to $500 to standardize, perfect, and taste-test their recipes and then participate in a live cooking competition at Columbus State Community College on May 9, 2025.
Teams of students in grades 6-12 from schools participating in the National School Lunch Program may apply. The application deadline is February 5, 2025.
For more entry details, visit the Ohio Grown: Student Chef Showcase webpage or contact Farm to School Education Specialist Rebecca Naab.

WebXam Test Security Rulebook
The start of field and post-testing is a great time to review policies and procedures. Be sure to familiarize yourself and any new teachers in your school with the WebXam Test Security Rulebook. Teachers and administrators who access the WebXam website to administrate or deliver tests are required to agree to the WebXam User Agreement, which includes acceptance of the revised Test Security Rulebook. Users will be prompted to confirm acceptance of these policies the first time they access each school year.

WebXam Teacher Reviews
The purpose of the WebXam review workshops is to allow Career-Technical Education instructors a formal opportunity to review and comment on WebXam operational test forms. The workshop reviews should also be viewed as a tool the instructors can use to drive future instruction. The review workshops will be held onsite at CETE or, as a second option, hosted offsite at a local district through special arrangements. Individuals participating in the reviews will be required to sign a nondisclosure agreement that includes policy stating that sharing of any information attained during the review is strictly prohibited. The cost per teacher is $60.

Advisers are the Subject Matter Experts: The Office of Career-Technical Education and Ohio FCCLA State Office have the expectation that advisers will help facilitate Career Development Event competitions in the role of Subject Matter Experts at the regional, state, and national levels. Ohio FCCLA State Staff members are key in identifying qualified evaluators, room consultants, and event volunteers. Because Career Development Events operate on a limited budget, unpaid volunteers are essential.
