Lethal Exposures: Carbon Monoxide and Cyanide
Brief Description: Carbon Monoxide is the most frequent cause of poisoning deaths in industrialized countries and also the most often missed poisoning diagnosis. CO is not just a fire department issue. EMS agencies often mistake CO poisoning for general illness or flu viruses. On your next CO call or EMS run, non-invasive technologies that measure CO levels inpatients can help you avoid sending victims back to a poisoned environment. Firefighter rehab units should also have the capability to non-invasively screen firefighters for CO exposure.

Firefighter I & II
Brief Description: This seven week Firefighter program is the only of its kind in the State of Ohio to be recognized by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC). This course meets and exceeds the Ohio Revised Code for full-time firefighters and the training and education standards identified in the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standards. In addition to these standards, students will learn Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator qualifications. Upon completion of this course, participants will have the knowledge necessary to successfully complete the Firefighter II examination. Fireworks Continuing Education
Brief Description: This course will meet the requirements for continuing education that must be completed every three years by a licensed fireworks and/or pyrotechnics exhibitor in Ohio. A licensed exhibitor who attends this required program may, within one year after attending, and on an annual basis during the following two years, conduct in-service training using the information obtained in this class. Target audience: Licensed Exhibitors, Fire Service, and Law Enforcement.

Swift Water Rescue Operations
Brief Description: This course meets the standards for Ohio Fire Academy as an operations trained responder for surface water rescue. Students will learn material through classroom lecture and hands-on applications. Remote or indirect rescues will be stressed and boat handling skills will be presented. Fire Investigations 1
Brief Description: Students will learn the fundamentals of fire scene investigation including: origin and cause determination, evidence collection and interviewing skills through hands-on experience. Upon completion of this course, students will have the tools needed to effectively lead a fire investigation from start to finish. Confirmed Space Rescue Level I
Brief Description: Rescuers looking to enhance their technical skill set will benefit greatly from this course. Participants will learn essentials of confined space rescue including: recognition and identification, equipment, safety, entry into the confined space, packaging the victim and terminating the incident. Confirmed Space Rescue Level II
Brief Description: This course will address the Level II components of Chapter 7, Confined Space Rescue of NFPA 1006 Standard for Technical Rescuer Professional Qualifications. Level II applies to individuals who identify hazards, use equipment, and apply advanced techniques specified in the standard to perform confined space technical rescue operations. EMT-Basic
Brief Description: This intense course is designed to instruct students to the level of Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) in compliance with the 1994 Department of Transportation curriculum as approved by the Ohio EMS Board. This Four week course includes classroom and off-site clinical instruction in all EMT-B skills. All participants must have the physical strength necessary to perform the normal functions of an EMT-B. Students will be eligible for National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician's (NRMET) certification testing upon successful completion of the EMT-B course. Training in Acquired Structures
Brief Description: Live fire training in acquired structures provides great "real-world" scenarios for firefighter training; however this kind of training can be very dangerous for participants and the community if not prepared accurately. Plan Review 101 for Fire Officials
Brief Description: This course Plan Review for Fire Officials is a 3 day basic course designed to meet the needs of the fire prevention officer. Combining classroom instruction and a "hands-on" learning approach, the course addresses code application during building construction, interpersonal communications, code interpretations, acceptance testing, and maintenance of fire protection systems. Structural Fire Attack "101"
Brief Description: This two day program puts students through intense scenario-based live fire training. Students will have the opportunity to experience the Mobile Fire Behavior Lab (flashover unit). Emergency Vehicle Operations-Fire Apparatus
Brief Description: This 16 hour Emergency Vehicle Operations course consist of 2 parts; Part A has 8 hours of classroom instructions and covers the following topics: Legal Aspects of Emergency Vehicle Operation, Operator's Responsibility: Vehicle Inspection & Maintenance, Operation of Emergency Vehicles, Selecting Routes, Seatbelts, Lights and Sirens, Rural, Urban and Expressway Operations, Intersections, Traffic Signals and Stop Signs, Results of High Speeds, Parking and Passing, and Handling Unusual Situations; Part B consist of a minimum of 8 hours of hands-on driving of emergency apparatus at the Academy's driver training facility or at your local fire department if a Direct Delivery class. Auto Extrication
Brief Description: This intensive course was developed by the Ohio Fire Academy and is a must for all rescue personnel. Extrication of victims from vehicle accidents is the type of rescue work most frequently performed today The basic skills and techniques used to extricate victims from motor vehicles should be acquired by all rescue personnel. Brief Description: This course is for the Fire Officer who provides a leadership role within his/her department. The Ohio Fire Academy offers the only National Fire Academy recognized Fire Officer II program in the State of Ohio. This course expands on the management techniques learned in Fire Officer I and focuses on public education and community relations; budget preparation and requests; legal responsibilities; time management; and emergency operations management. Brief Description: This 8-hour course was developed by the State of Ohio Homeland Security Task Force, sub-committee for training. This course is designed to meet NFPA, OSHA, EPA and ODP standards/guidelines, and the needs of multiple disciplines (Fire, Law Enforcement, EMS, Healthcare Providers, and Public Works) that may be involved with incidents involving hazardous materials or weapons of mass destruction.
