Greetings!
Welcome to December! I hope you had a restful and enjoyable time with family and friends.

It's hard to believe but another year of competitive events is about to get underway in Ohio with our regional competitions.

Please note the upcoming deadlines for membership along with the sign up for your regional competitions.

Also "State Officer Intent to Serve Forms" are due postmarked December 20, 2019.


Please review the newsletter and share with your students the over $170,000 (to date) scholarships and awards to be awarded at this year's State Leadership Conference.

Important Reminder: Membership Deadline
Affiliation applications for state and national levels must be submitted to National HOSA no later than January 1st if the student is enrolled in the fall semester; spring enrollees must be affiliated by March 1 or within thirty (30) days of the beginning of a program initiated during the spring semester. Dues must be paid prior to competing in regional competitions.  
Note: There are only 3 weeks left until the Christmas Holiday Break. Be certain to affiliate members before the holidays.
Regional Events Sign Up and School Listing
It is time to begin registering your students for regional competitions. Please note the closing date for registering for your respective regional events. Attached is a listing of the schools that comprise each region. We continue to have new chapters each year added to our association. If your chapter is not listed on the attachment please excuse the oversight and contact the State Advisor to find out your region.

Sign Up Closes for:
Region 1, 2, 3, and 7: January 5, 2020
Region 6: January 11, 2020 ( Note: Changed date )
Region 4, 5: February 1, 2020

Note: Please observe the above deadlines in order to allow ample time for planning, organizing and securing supplies for your regional event.

Who can compete? Any HOSA member who has affiliated and dues are paid by January 1, 2020.

How many events can a member compete in? Members may compete in one team or individual competitive event.

How many competitors may a chapter have? Each chapter is allowed to enter up to three individuals in individual events and up to three teams in team events.

Questions about the location and schedule should be directed to your regional captain.

Direct all questions regarding eligibility, registration, and guidelines to the State Advisor.
Nursing Assisting Sponsorship
Ohio HOSA is proud to welcome United Church Homes, Inc. - Chapel Hill Community as a new sponsor! Because of the leadership of Karen Marks at R.G. Drage Career Center, Chapel Hill Community is sponsoring our top three state finalists in the Nursing Assisting Competitive Event.

As a sponsor, Chapel Hill Community's sponsorship we provide the top three finalists with a gold, silver or bronze medallion and their school will receive a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place banner for their program to display in their school. Additionally, the first place individual will receive paid registration to compete at the International Leadership Conference in Houston, TX.

Leadership Initiatives Summit Scholarships
Ohio HOSA is pleased to announce a partnership with Leadership Initiatives Youth Development Program. All HOSA students receive a $1,000 scholarship to any of their programs. In addition, Ohio HOSA members will receive an additional $250 and the state competitive event winners will receive another $250 scholarship from one of their board members, Nicolas Benore, totaling $15,000. Making the Neuroscience Summit, which is originally $4,000 now $2,500 with the scholarship and the Medical Assisting and Public Health Summit which is originally $3,400 now $1,950.

This past summer three Ohio HOSA State Officers attended a summit and each spoke highly of the week-long summit as they prepare for college. The program is an intensive study of neuroscience and medical assisting. Each student worked with physicians from Nigeria and diagnosed Nigerian patients in real time often given them lifesaving solutions to the top four diseases facing the world.

Now is a perfect time for students with an interest in attending to plan and conduct local fundraising events to secure their spot in these outstanding summits. If you have students who are interested please contact me for further details.
Will one of your students win a chance to increase their SAT/ACT Score?
Up to ten Ohio HOSA members will be awarded a one-year licensure to TestRocker - an online interactive program proven to raise student's ACT and SAT scores. Each award is valued at $1,200. How can your students earn this 'scholarship'?
To be eligible students must be a current high school member, attend the SLC, and have taken the SAT or ACT test prior to the conference. Students attending the conference will have the opportunity to sign up at the State Leadership Conference for the live drawing to be conducted during the closing awards session.
Johnson & Wales Competitive Event Scholarships
Johnson & Wales University is pleased to provide scholarships for the top 3 finishers in several Ohio HOSA competitive event categories at the state level for 2019-2020. First place will be awarded $1,000, second place will be awarded $750, and third place will be awarded $500. These amounts are renewable for up to four years, making their total valuation $4,000, $3,000, and $2,000.
This year, they are pleased to provide scholarships for students competing in the following events:

* Sports Medicine
* HOSA Bowl
* Biomedical Lab Science
* Health Education
* Public Health

Each member of the team events will be awarded a scholarship in the amount listed above.
Ohio HOSA Scholarships
The Ohio HOSA, Inc. Board of Directors voted to again sponsor 2- $1,000 college scholarships for graduating seniors who are pursuing a degree in the healthcare field upon graduation from high school. Click on the below button to access the application. Applications are to be submitted by mail, postmarked no later than March 6, 2020. Only complete applications will be reviewed. Awardees must attend the State Leadership Conference.
Peer To Peer Safety Program
Is your chapter looking for a service learning and leadership development opportunity? During our Fall Leadership Program we were pleased to have an exhibitor from Texas A & M Transportation Institute share an opportunity for local chapters to conduct a free program called "Teens in the Driver Seat".

The Institute is looking for 4-5 Ohio HOSA chapters to participate in the program. If you have a desire to increase student safe driving habits perhaps this is the program for your chapter. There is no cost and the Institute will award a $1,250 travel stipend to a chapter who is able to attend their institute. Click on the below button to access more details.
