Director's Corner

As we step into the month of July, Ohio START continues to uphold the belief that every individual deserves support and the opportunity for positive change. Together, we stand stronger, fostering compassion and understanding for all.

"It's one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself: to forgive. Forgive everybody." - Maya Angelou

From the Field: County Highlights

Ottawa

Ottawa has opened 30 START cases and will begin work on self-assessment for fidelity review this August.

Warren

Warren successfully graduated a client and has 9 open cases.

Jackson

Jackson has added a second caseworker who has begun training shadowing with the current dyad.

Butler County Works Towards Certification

Congratulations to the Butler County START team for successfully completing the initial phase of the certification process! The initial phase included completion of a comprehensive self-assessment. The team submitted the self-assessment and supporting documentation demonstrating their adherence to model fidelity. Children and Family Futures (CFF) completed a review of these documents and Butler County will move forward with the certification process. The team will continue to work with CFF to complete the final stage, including participating in focus group discussions.

The Summit County START team will begin the certification process this month. CFF is facilitating a kick-off meeting with the team on July 10th.

Developing a Better Understanding: Xylazine

OACBHA recently released a one-pager on Xylazine. Xylazine also known as “tranq” or “tranq dope” on the streets, has become increasingly present in the illicit drug supply. Xylazine is a powerful sedative that can cause drowsiness and amnesia and slow breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure to dangerously low levels. According to the Ohio Department of Health, overdose deaths involving xylazine have increased each year in Ohio since 2019. The Xylazine one-pager can be found here.
