Tool: Developing Goals for Schoolwide SEL
This tool presents the “SMARTIE” goal-setting process. SMARTIE goals are a useful link between a needs and resources assessment and an action plan. The tool includes a template that can be used to prioritize clear, motivating goals for SEL.
Ohio Adopts SEL Policy for Schools
The Ohio State Board of Education has adopted an SEL policy that will be implemented this school year in grades K-12. The approach focuses on the “whole student,” which includes helping students regulate their emotions, become better communicators, and make good decisions.

Derived from a range of evidence-based programs, these activities provide practical ways to incorporate the five SEL competencies into the classroom.
SEL Trends: How Districts Are Overcoming Common Challenges
CASEL’s latest brief features recommendations for addressing common systemic SEL implementation challenges, such as overcoming “initiative fatigue,” strengthening adult SEL, and establishing a common understanding of how SEL serves all students. Many of these insights are drawn from our SEL Readiness and Engagement Analysis (SELREA), where CASEL meets with district representatives about the district’s SEL efforts, the challenges they face, and their vision for the future. Nov. 20, POP-Up Festival to Celebrate World Children’s Day
UNICEF and allies in 150+ countries are collaborating to bring more emotional intelligence awareness and resources to children and the adults who support them. A POP-UP Festival is a hands-on learning experience that you create by printing the activity “stations,” gathering simple materials, and inviting people to come together to learn and play. Each host decides which “stations” to print and adapts them to their audience. More
