Great Idea to Share : Foundation Strategic Planning with the Oklahoma School Foundations Network Director, Katy Leffel

Mission: We bridge the community and classroom to maximize student potential.

The Miami Public Schools Enrichment Foundation (MSPEF) is growing and thriving. The foundation board recognized the need for their organization to make a strategic plan to guide the foundation into the future and reached out to Oklahoma School Foundations Network Director Katy Leffel to lead the strategic planning initiative.

In the lead up to the day-long board retreat, Katy was able to use online surveys to collect stakeholder feedback on the current state of the Miami Public Schools Enrichment Foundation. Board members reviewed this data and came up with a set of goals for the foundation to pursue. During the board retreat, Katy led the board through exercises to develop a new, revised mission statement. The board then utilized the data from the surveys to come up with goals and objectives to create a strategic plan to guide them forward in their work.

" Katy really helped our board clarify and sharpen our mission and identify key growth areas and immediate practical steps to implement our vision for our kids, our schools, and our community," said President Georgeann Roye. "I was amazed at how she was able to guide us, in a very short period of time, to think in terms of both our big, long-term picture and the concrete actions needed to get there. It was a refreshingly productive experience for our board."
