Sturbridge M.A. – Old Sturbridge Village (OSV) has announced that November 3rd, Election Day will be a paid holiday for their faculty and staff. All employees of Old Sturbridge Village, Old Sturbridge Academy and Coggeshall Farm Museum will have the day off to participate in the election process in their communities.
Old Sturbridge Village is in the process of creating a digital civics program for youth. Civics education is more important than ever, and the museum will take a role in providing a solution, helping develop engaged and thoughtful citizens. As the Village continues to emphasize the importance of civic responsibility, they also want to ensure they support their staff in every way possible. With these two things in mind the leadership of the Village decided that it was important to make Election Day a paid holiday for all their employees.
“We as an organization want to ensure that we are not just teaching civics, but also demonstrating civic responsibility” said Jim Donahue, President and CEO. “We feel that all of our employees deserve the opportunity to participate in the electoral process and giving them a holiday allows them to do so.”
Old Sturbridge Village has been hosting a polling location for the town of Sturbridge at the Oliver Wight Tavern since 2013.
