Issue: 13

June 2011

Greetings!

Firstly we would like to say thank you to all those who voted May's local election. Will Sandry was returned as your local Councillor and you have elected David Dixon as your new Councillor to join him in the Oldfield Ward.

Oldfield Bar Chart

Our manifesto for the area was based on what you told us was important to you. We will work through these commitments over the next four years to make positive change for our community. Don't forget you can still complete our survey online here. We listen all year round, not just in the six weeks before elections!
Linear Park News

Trees on the Linear Park around Monksdale Road are due to be cut down to make way for the new bridge. Read the full story here.

Following complaints about dog mess on the path, Will has fixed signs to the new bins to show that they can be used for both dog mess and general litter. Read the full story here.

The Sand Pits

A few weeks ago staff volunteers from Bath and North East Somerset Council, and local students through the Student Community Partnership came together to give the older play equipment in the Sand Pits a much needed coat of paint.

The old play equipment had been looking a bit drab since last summer when new equipment was installed beside it.

David Dixon said: "Play areas are vitally important to our communities in Bath and North East Somerset. The Sand Pits will never compete with the size of the Victoria Park play area, but I want the Sand Pits to be the most loved play area in Bath."

Will said: " I was delighted that Council Staff and the Student Community Partnership came together to arrange this painting session. It was great that passing members of the community pitched in and lent a hand on the day."

PACT Meeting - 6th July

The next community meeting will be held on 6 July 2011 at 6:30 PM

at St Alphege's Hall, Oldfield Lane, Bath, BA2 3NR.

Community priorities from the last meeting were:

1. Parking on Third Avenue and King Edward Road opposite Bishops Bike Shop

2. Inconsiderate parking outside St John's School

3. Dangerous parking on the junction of Oldfield Lane and Junction Road

We will report back at the meeting on progress in dealing with these issues. If your priorities for the area are different, please come along and have your say.  If you are unable to be at the meeting please email us with your points of view.

Crime and Antisocial Behaviour

Police Van at FlatsWe are fortunate to have low levels of crime and antisocial behaviour in our community, however there have been a few thefts of pedal cycles from front gardens recently.

There has also been a recent spate in the BANES area of unsolicited letters being sent to unsuspecting victims claiming that they are from a bank normally overseas (Japan / Singapore etc). PLEASE ignore these letters they are a scam.

Planning Applications
New applications

Use this link to go to the Council's planning portal where you can see planning applications and comment on them.

It's always best to make comments as soon as possible as there is always an expiry date after which comments may not be taken in to account.

Of interest this month is a proposed extension to the Cedar Care home at 33 Englishcombe Lane and a proposed orangery at the Englishcombe Inn site.

You can run a search on all current planning applications by selecting status "pending consideration" and Ward "Oldfield"
