a message from your
Granville County Democratic Party

Greetings, Democrats & friends!

This email is about a few things.

  1. Responding to the xenophobic and frankly lazy AI-generated lies the opposition seems to have crafted into a mailer against our good senator;
  2. in the works, our own pro-candidate mailers;
  3. FYI: we have a town hall on education on Thursday, September 10th, organized by the senator's election campaign and LaHoma Romocki for CC6; come out to Orange Street at 6:30PM that night, talk about issues that matter to you, and meet our candidates!

Dishonesty, & what I understand of what it is to be Brown or Black or Muslim in politics in a post-9/11 world

Friends, this week a quite terrible mailer from the ambiguously named North Carolina Senate Majority Fund (read: GOP PAC) landed on the doorsteps of some local voters. It contained the usual lazy lies MAGA-conservatives (and really xenophobes of all types) have been slinging at Brown and Black politicians and those with non-Anglo names for decades—for centuries—this time directed at our senator, Haseeb Fatmi.

"Too extreme," they say, "Too dangerous."

Friends, these losers couldn't be more wrong, though I suspect they and the local conservative yahoos shall try.

The truth is, conservatives have got nothing on our excellent candidate, so they run to repeat these tired lies. They make up connections that don't exist because they have nothing to offer. It is Islamophobic. It is xenophobic—afraid of the other.

Let us not forget the many hellish lies conservatives cooked up about one Barack Hussein Obama; the tools may have changed, but the tactic is the same.

In so doing, they tie themselves to the legacy of McCarthyism that ginned up a Red Scare, to those who disappeared Muslim Americans like the poet Solmaz Sharif's uncle in the wake of 9/11, to Hoover's FBI trotting out lies about Black Panthers for exercising their 2nd Amendment and feeding kids free lunch—in doing so, they show themselves the kind of actors more likely to drug a young man to kill him in his bed than to keep children from going hungry. And in service of what?! (Of a just state? It is only as just as the men and women who serve in it.)

It is not enough to hope that the days of these kinds of conservatives holding the power of the state are numbered. Let us work towards that, every day between now and November, by doing the direct voter contact needed to re-elect Sen. Fatmi and to elect Democrats up and down the ballot.

Granville Dems do mailers, too!

Now, lest you think the GOP are the only folks capable of sending mailers out these days, rest assured that we have our own rather extensive mailer plan for the fall—though ours will be quite a bit more geared towards honest positives about our candidates than negatives or lies about the opposition.

In the coming weeks, keep your eyes peeled not only for some pro-Dem mailings, but also blue ballots and early voting info!

And don't miss this opportunity to engage with local Democratic candidates!

Thursday, September 10th, 6:30-8PM at Orange Street Community Center, the Romocki and Fatmi campaigns are hosting an Education Town Hall. This is a great opportunity to come out and engage with our candidates on an issue that really matters to Granville voters, and we hope to see you there!

September Events Overview

So take your canvassing shifts & attend the town hall and show up this week! And then come find us at the Hot Sauce Festival.

As the great Fannie Lou Hamer would say, "none of us are free until all of us are free." And until we are: a luta continua.

See you on the doors. See you at the festival.

With boundless gratitude & determination,

Chair, Granville County Democratic Party
