Dr. Xiaohua Peng’s research on anticancer agents has progressed from discovery to commercialization.
Her team’s work began more than a decade ago. It led to multiple invention disclosures with the UWM Research Foundation and subsequent patent activity focused on compounds and targeted cancer therapies.
More recently, Peng and her team received a Bradley Catalyst Grant to continue developing a
novel therapy combining anticancer compounds with high-dose Vitamin C, demonstrating 20-30 times greater potency than existing drugs with fewer side effects. Meanwhile, participation in the Milwaukee I-Corps entrepreneurial training program helped the team envision a commercialization strategy, leading to the launch of SynXT Therapeutics in January 2025 with co-founder Dr. Taufeeque Ali.
Now, SynXT is looking to the future. To advance its flagship cancer therapeutic, the startup is aiming for Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) seed funding to work toward clinical trials and regulatory approval. Ultimately, the company plans to expand globally through partnerships with hospitals, oncologists, and pharmaceutical distributors.
