WCEC's Annual Meeting
After a two year online meeting format, we are looking forward to seeing our members at the co-op’s annual meeting. Prior to the meeting, join us for a concert featuring Meredith Crawford and the Mean Streak, who are quickly gaining recognition near and far. They’ll introduce the crowd to some of their originals and cover some popular songs with their Texas Soul/Americana flair.

Ballots for the election of directors for Districts 5 and 6 will be mailed this month. On the ballot for District 5 are incumbent Cathy Roberts, and challenger Clay Smith. For District 6, Jane Roberson, is running unopposed.

Your vote is vital. To thank you for your time, early ballots received by Sept. 26, 2022 will
be entered into a prize drawing for a $500 VISA gift card. Ballots arriving by Oct. 6 will be entered into a drawing for one of 20 $100 electricity bill credits. The results of the election and winners will be announced at annual meeting.

Following the business meeting, WCEC members may participate in a raffle of prizes donated by our generous vendors. We hope to see you at the annual meeting!
Safety Tip of the Month
Does Labor Day live up to its name for your family? The day is held to honor the workforce. Most get the day off from work. Even so, many use the holiday to tackle outside chores.

If that is your plan, before you begin any outdoor project, follow these simple safety tips:

  • Verify that your power tools are in good working order.
  • Inspect the power cord and always use a three-wire extension receptacle with three-pronged plugs. Never cut the third prong off of a power tool to make it fit.
  • Never carry a power tool by the cord or use it near water.
  • When using extension cords make sure they are designed for outdoor use. They're thicker, more durable and have connectors molded onto them to prevent moisture damage.
  • Check the amperage rating of the extension cord to make sure it's high enough to meet the power demand of the tool you are using.
  • Push plugs all the way into outlets to ensure a complete connection.
Energy Efficiency Tip of the Month
Our faucets and appliances use a lot of hot water. You can lower your water heating costs by using less hot water in your home. Water heating accounts for 18% of home energy bills.

To save energy (and money!) used for water heating, repair any leaky faucets, install low-flow fixtures and insulate accessible hot water lines. Also, think about adding a timer for your water heater. When it’s time to purchase a new washing machine or dishwasher, look for models that are ENERGY STAR®-certified.
