TEXTILE and ART courses offering unique learning opportunities for all
In beautiful South Shropshire an area of outstanding natural beauty
NEWS FROM MOORHALL
Sadly I missed this recent weekend, with the Textile Study Group. I would have so loved to have met up with my friends and colleagues but it wasn't to be. I am sure that they all had a very productive and creative time with Sue Brown tutoring them.

When you get this email I shall have Julia Triston here teaching and she is a member of the Textile Study Group, so I may well join in with her course. I need to get motivated once again and get out of this hole that I am in. I am sure some of you can understand that!!!!!

Later in this newsletter you will find a poem written by the wonderful Jan Messent, in response to Ken Bevan's last poem 'Snowdrops'. Jan is the author of so many textile books and has been an inspiration for many of us over the years. She has in latter years spent much of her time writing historical fiction. I hope you enjoy this poem.

First up is the work from students taught on-line by Dorothy Tucker last November. Students were given a couple of months to complete the work and this proved to be very successful as it takes time to stitch Kantha. Dorothy will be returning to Moor Hall this August when she will be offering a two day face to face workshop and again next November with an on-line workshop. Please visit the website.

A four session course over four weeks with the focus of drawing with charcoal. Students will work through a series of exercises resulting in two or three fully resolved tonal compositions, which they will take through to colour using pastels. 'Lacebook'
7/8 May 2022 ~ 10.00 to 4.00pm
Introduction 6 May at 5.00pm
In this two-day online workshop, including an introductory session, lace will be your inspiration. You will study and draw the patterns and textures of lace, then develop printed and collaged surfaces from your drawings. You will experiment with piercing and cutting into paper and fabric to create lacy surfaces.
[
Using different materials and media, you will explore a variety of textile and stitch techniques to create patterned, raised and textured samples which may be stitched into by hand or machine.
Your samples will be collated in a small sketchbook, which will be a work of art in its own right. Some of these samples will be stitched or printed ‘sketches’, which may form ideas for future work, whilst others may be more resolved and completed delicate, mini artworks.
