Special Invitation to the Public
Proposed Project Review & Comment

WAMPO is inviting the public to help us update our next long-range metropolitan transportation plan (MTP), which sets the vision and strategy for all regional transportation decision making for the next 20 years.

The next phase of our work includes the consideration of a number of regional transportation project proposals and updates.   We are asking the public to help us review the list of proposed projects to be considered for the new long-range plan project list.

Feedback during this review period will be reported and used during the project selection process.  Therefore, your participation is essential in communicating your level or support as well as whether or not you think the project meets the outcomes and specific needs of the community.

Check out the flyer below for details about our outcomes and click on the interactive project list survey link to lend your voice and perspective.  Each project has a quick three question survey and you are welcome to pick and choose which project(s) you review and respond to based on topic or geographic location.

 or visit www.publicinput.com/5208

Thanks in advance for your time and attention in helping us  REIMAGINE the current plan and the best possible future for our region.

Wichita North Junction Update
The WAMPO Transportation Policy Body, in partnership with the Kansas Department of Transportation, recently approved the use of $21.7 million in federal transportation funds to carryout pre-construction activities for the Gold Phase of the North Junction project.

The Gold Phase is the second phase of this 3-phase project.  Pre-construction activities for the Gold Phase include right of way acquisition, utility relocation, and final engineering design.  The estimated cost of the this phase is $25 million

Pre-construction costs for the Gold Phase are being shared among WAMPO, KDOT, the City of Wichita, and Sedgwick County from a variety of funding sources.   In addition to the Gold Phase funding WAMPO and KDOT approved the use of federal funding for a Gold Phase pre-construction "Accelerated Project."

The Accelerated project is currently in design for a f ly-over bridge for northbound I-135 to southbound I-235, a directional ramp for southbound I-135 to southbound I-235, and a bridge structure over the BNSF railroad on I-235, just west of the interchange.   Construction costs for the "Accelerated Project" have not yet been approved by KDOT or the TPB.

KDOT Local Consult Update

A series of regional meetings in 2019 are giving Kansans the opportunity to help shape the future of transportation in Kansas.

These Local Consult meetings will inform the state's next Long-Range Transportation Plan, the planning document that will guide investments from 2020 to 2045. That document will shape the state's next transportation program, known as FORWARD.

The first round of Local Consult meetings took place in eight communities around the state. These meetings gave Kansans the opportunity to discuss new and existing transportation projects to move people, freight and technology. Participants also took part in a  scenario planning exercise to thoughtfully consider transportation needs in Kansas communities in the future - needs that shape conversations and priorities beginning today.  If you weren't able to make that first meeting in the Wichita Metro area click HERE to review the summary!

The second round of Local Consult meetings will include discussions about the transportation assets in each region of the state, and work with stakeholders to identify regional priorities. These meetings are open to the public and listed by region on the map below.
