ENV raises over $17K on CPP Giving Day
|
Friends and supporters this week
gifted $17,770
to the College of Environmental Design on
CPP Giving Day
, the university's largest annual online fundraising campaign.
Forty-seven donations are distributed among departments, the Lyle Center for Regenerative Studies, and various scholarships. The
ENV Emergency Assistance Program
received an injection of funds that will make it possible to distribute stipends to a second group of recipients.

All classes, exams and most services are remote/virtual for the remainder of the semester. 2020 Commencement ceremonies are postponed.
- Update your contact information on BroncoDirect to receive important campus updates.
- Credit/No Credit grading options for Spring 2020. Students have three grading options for their final course grades.
- All Summer 2020 courses will be taught in virtual mode. See the Summer website for details.
- GRE and GMAT requirements for graduate programs are temporarily waived for Fall 2020 admissions.
- The University Library building and 24-hour computer lab are closed until further notice. Students can borrow university laptops (and mobile hotspots) for their coursework. Email studentsuccess@cpp.edu.

- Buildings 1, 2, 3, 7, 13, 89 and 209 are closed and locked for the rest of the term. Studios and classrooms should not be accessed during the state's stay-at-home order.
- ENV Credit/No Credit Forum is on Thursday, April 30, 12 p.m. Join Bronco Advising Center via Zoom for the live session. (Recordings will be available at a later time.)
- ENV Emergency Assistance Program provides a one-time $500 stipend to students facing hardships due to COVID-19.
- ENV students can get free design software like Adobe Creative Cloud, AutoCAD, ArcMap GIS and Chem Office. (See the full list of software available for download.)
- Hundreds of remote student jobs are on Handshake. These don't require being on campus. Log in and search using keyword "remote."
- The ENV Model Shop and Architecture Fabrication Lab are closed, but instructional technicians Delmer Guillen and Paul Saskas are available for consultations.
- ENV Student Success Center offers virtual/remote advising. Book appointments with advisors Teresa Castaneda and Elizabeth Guevara-Laxamana via CPP Connect.
- Get career advising. Schedule an appointment with ENV Career Specialist Alie Ivie via Handshake.

ARCHITECTURE + REGENERATIVE STUDIES
After the transition to remote instruction, lecturer
Behnam Samareh
redirected his fabrication classes in the department and the Lyle Center towards the design and production of a molded (poured) "COVID-19-inspired" mask using 3D printed molds and commonly available household materials. His architecture class design and produce the molds, while his regenerative studies class focused on materials research "which can be produced in their houses using supermarket/hardware store products."

A SOMBER SWEARING-IN
Walter Allen III
('75, urban and regional planning) was sworn into office
on April 8, more than a month after Covina voters re-elected him for another term as city council member. Allen was was among local incumbent
victories
in the March 3 statewide elections. He has been active in local politics since 1997.
A law enforcement expert with 43 years of experience, Allen is a
graduate
of the 172nd session of the FBI National Academy and currently serves as director of the Rio Hondo Police Academy at Rio Hondo College.
Allen displayed a talent for
leadership and governance
during his time at Cal Poly Pomona. He was vice chairman of the Black Student Union, co-founded the Iota Psi chapter of Alpha Psi Alpha Fraternity, and served one term as ENV Senator of Associated Students, Inc. before being elected as its
first
African-American president.
