(’14, architecture) is the new resident director of the Neutra VDL Studio and Residences – where he once greeted guests as student docent trained by his immediate predecessor Professor
Sarah Lorenzen
. The docent program is one of many enhancements Lorenzen implemented to re-assert the significance of architect Richard Neutra’s former family residence as a cultural space.

- ENV Emergency Assistance Program has provided 33 grants to students. With so many still in need, ENV plans to continue awarding through the summer. (Donations to the emergency program are still being accepted.) Thank you to our alumni, friends, faculty and staff for being early supporters of the program!
- The ENV Model Shop and Architecture Fabrication Lab are closed, but instructional technicians Delmer Guillen and Paul Saskas are available for consultations.

Last spring, the Department of Art collaborated with The Collins College of Hospitality Management and the College of Agriculture to design the labels of the
Horsehill Vineyards
2017 zinfandel and 2019 zinfandel rose wines.
The zinfandel rose will be available at the Farm Store next week, while the zinfandel is already on shelves. (Yes, the Farm Store is

('17, graphic design). The two first met when the latter was still a student and touring Adidas facilities during a class field trip to Portland, Ore. Boyle is now a junior art director at Long Beach-based advertising agency Designory. "It's kind of cool to bring them together a few years later as peers," Acock said.

LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE
In "A Shift of Value – Redefining Central Los Angeles, United States" the design team adopted a geodesign process, conducted geospatial analyses to investigate the environmental and social challenges at multiple spatial scales, and developed planning and design scenarios for 10 infrastructure systems specified by the International Geodesign Collaboration (IGC). The group also assessed the climate change impacts of the proposed changes brought to downtown Los Angeles.

Professor Emerita
Ana Maria Whitaker
was the recipient of the Planning Accreditation Board
2019 Site Visitor Award
.
A volunteer site visitor since 2001, she has conducted 10 site visits – six as team chair – and contributed to accreditation reviews. Whitaker has served on various American Planning Association (APA) and American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) committees and task forces. She was principal planner for the City of Pasadena for a decade before teaching at Cal Poly Pomona for 24 years. Whitaker received her emerita status in the 2008-09 academic year.

her Patreon site
.
"Most thesis research is never read, and I wanted to be sure that my work was understandable to the general public," Slabaugh said. "In particular I wanted to be sure that it was accessible to the community members I worked with to produce this research, many of whom are monolingual Spanish speakers."

There are a variety of reasons one might choose to pursue a degree. The main reason we pursue a degree and continue our education is to acquire a new level of knowledge. Earning a degree is a huge achievement that takes a tremendous amount of time and effort, but the most important piece is what you do with your education post-graduation and beyond. How will you use your education and experience to help design the future?

David Salazar
('90, master's in urban and regional planning) was
inducted
into the AICP College of Fellows, the highest honor conferred to members of the American Institute of Certified Planners.
Salazar retired last year from the Los Angeles Community College District where he served as its chief facilities executive. Over the course of his three-decade career he managed building projects in the CSU system, San Bernardino Community College District, and Claremont Graduate University.
Salazar has taught as a lecturer in his home department. In 2005, he was named
Distinguished Alumnus
of the College of Environmental Design.

Eduardo Hernandez Jr.
('15, urban and regional planning)
will be working on housing, coastal and mining projects for Sonoma County. Hired after the state's stay-home order, Hernandez's first day of work was spent in virtual conference and video calls with his new colleagues.
"[April 21] was my first day with them [as Planner III], but due to COVID-19 I haven't been to the office yet," he said.
Hernandez previously worked as a planner for Mendocino County, where one of his duties involved administering the county's surface mining operations.
