Dear MHC Academy Family and Friends,

What a great marking period this has been! Our Freshmen have been welcomed with their Induction and Retreat, our Student Council has hosted its Haunted Trail with bonfire, our Athletic Center had its ribbon cutting, our Performing Arts department produced a Cabaret and Little Women, and our faculty have found engaging ways to connect with students. We continue our efforts to bring new people on campus and engage with the wider community with our Open Houses, our fundraiser with Tony Dungy and James Brown, and our upcoming Autumn Gala.

As we come through the holiday season, let’s not forget the month of November begins with All Saints and All Souls’ Day and ends with Thanksgiving. What great reminders of the importance of faith, family, and community. We have a community in Heaven championing us on and a family on Earth that can walk this journey with us. Know of our prayers for all of your loved ones and please continue to pray for us.

Sincerely,

FRESHMEN INDUCTION CEREMONY

The Class of 2027 was officially welcomed into MHC Academy with the Freshmen Induction Ceremony. At this event, the Seniors symbolically passed on the light that they received their Freshman year. This cherished tradition also includes the reception of class pins.

AN NHS HALLOWEEN

MHC Academy's National Honor Society hosted Halloween festivities for our students and faculty. In keeping with tradition, students donned costumes and paraded to the Provincial House. It was a beautiful day for a parade! The retired Sisters greeted the students with smiles and treats. During lunchtime, NHS members hosted a treat sale to benefit their Holy Bones fundraiser. Student and faculty voted for their favorite costumes and prizes were awarded for the funniest, scariest, best duo, and most-Salesian costumes.

STUCO HAUNTED TRAIL

The MHC Academy Student Council hosted a combined Haunted Trail and Bonfire Night. The theme was "Haunted Hospital" and featured volunteer "scarers" who dotted the basement hallways of the school. Outside, participants roasted hot dogs and made s'mores while warming themselves up by the fire.

ITALIAN CLUB

In Italian club, students have been talking about the gestures Italian people use to communicate. Club moderator and Italian teacher, Mrs. Cillo demonstrated some of the gestures and how one gesture can replace a whole sentence. Often times, hands move just as quickly as speaking and it becomes a kind of conversational dance! The students enjoyed learning the real meaning behind these hand gestures. 🤌🏻😊

AP STATISTICS

In AP Statistics class, students performed an experiment to see how hand size affects the number of candies that can be grabbed. The experiment focused on stat plots, how to plot, and how to read trends.

CHEMISTRY 2 HONORS - DUAL ENROLLMENT

Students in Dr. DaBronzo's Chemistry 2 Honor's class (dual enrollment with Fairleigh Dickinson University) took advantage of the pond on campus and tested the pH level of the water. They discovered that the pH was close to neutral which is a good environment for our fish!

CABARET CONCERT

Students from MHC Academy participated in a special concert at Don Bosco Prep called "Come to the Cabaret" with Broadway Actor, Tory Palin. There were solo performances of famous Broadway tunes as well as a full ensemble performance. Amazing job, ladies! Photos by: Ms. Brooke Walters

TONY DUNGY AND JAMES BROWN

On Saturday, November 4th, former NFL Coach Tony Dungy and CBS Sportscaster James Brown were invited by the PTG to talk about spirituality and sports. Drawing on their wealth of experience, they discussed the importance of placing God first in everything and how to live one's faith authentically in all aspects of life.

ATHLETIC CENTER RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY

The brand new MHC Academy Athletic Center was officially opened on Friday, November 3rd. The Class of 2024 had this to say about the Center: "It is going to be a great way for all our sports to begin pre-season conditioning, and as well for our physical education class to learn how to properly use all the equipment. Now MHC Academy can come together as a whole and use this new part of our school to strengthen our athletic program, and take our game to the next level. Many athletes are eager to get in there so we can prepare ourselves for the competitive sport seasons ahead of us. We thank all those who helped make this dream become a reality!"

FRESHMEN RETREAT

A day focused on Faith, Family, Friendship, and Fun. The freshman class were separated into small groups under the names of Salesian saints, accompanied by 5 upperclassmen who acted as big sisters along the way. Throughout the day the opportunity to truly play and have fun manifested itself during group games, open gym, and photo ops up the hill. The freshmen also heard witness talks and had moments of reflection and journaling. The day ended with a solemn moment of prayer in front of the Blessed Sacrament in Adoration in thanksgiving for one another and the fun filled day spent as a Salesian Family as Class of 2027!

ALL SAINTS DAY MASS

The MHC Academy family gathered together today for mass on All Saints Day. Also, in light of All Souls Day on November 2, Campus Ministry will be dedicating the entire month of November to prayer each Wednesday, during Worship Wednesday Adoration for those who have passed.

PASTORAL PLAN 2023-2024

The next theme in Salesian Spirit is the "Oratory Model". St. John Bosco wanted every Salesian place to be a home that welcomes, a school that prepares for life, a church that evangelizes, and a playground where friends can meet. These four elements - home, school, church, playground - became the hallmark of each Salesian work. It incorporates the whole person and the whole of the educational mission. Young people and those who work with them are called to find God in the family-like spirit that creates a home, in the classroom where lessons are taught for life, in the church where the Eucharist calls each one to draw close to God, and in the playground where good friends are essential for living a happy and holy life. Which of the four parts of the oratory do you find easiest to encounter Jesus and which is the most challenging?
