Returning Home
Port Everglades is a busy port.  Even seafarers who don't regularly call at Port Everglades come through the port periodically.  One afternoon last month Pastor Steve was walking through our campus when he heard someone shout his name.  It was Daniel, a mariner that Pastor Steve has known for nearly 10 years.  His contract hasn't taken him through Port Everglades in nearly 3 years, but he came to our shores and went straight to Seafarers' House.  Over the next hour Daniel and Pastor Steve caught up on each other's lives, families, and discussed some of the feelings Daniel has now that his brother has retired from a career at sea and returned to their hometown in Honduras.  For Daniel, coming to our casa was like "returning home".

A piece of land at sea because #seafarersrock
The 2018 Shoebox Christmas campaign is underway! We're collecting, stuffing and wrapping in advance of the 2018 holiday season.  This year we'll be doing something a little different - adding a piece of terra firma to the boxes!  Anyone can paint a kindness rock for our shoeboxes this year!   Painted rocks can be dropped off at the Sawgrass Nature Center in Coral Springs or at our Casa through November 1, 2018.
If you are local to us, our friend Roxanne H. hosts painting sessions most Saturdays from 1 pm to 10 at the Grind Coffee Project at 599 SW 2nd Ave., FLL . Watch for her planned Saturday sessions posted on Broward County Rocks, or paint on your own and give the gift of terra firma this holiday season!

Salute to AMO!
Did you know that AMO is the largest union of U.S. merchant marine officers?  AMO members work aboard commercial, military sealift and government vessels.

AMO is a second year Annual Philanthropic Partner of Seafarers' House, committing to supporting our mission and organization.  We love working with the AMO and STAR Center team on various events throughout the year and appreciate their dedication to providing a home away from home for mariners at Port Everglades.

This month that partnership takes on a special meaning, as our pastoral care team will join with AMO and the STAR Center to dedicate their memorial to the El Faro.  It is our honor to support the family members, colleagues and port community as we remember those lost.

Getting closer to our new home away from home!

In May we launched the public phase of our $4.5 million Place of Welcome campaign to build a new home away from home for tens of thousands of seafarers who visit us each year!  Many individuals, families and corporations have already stepped up to sponsor areas of the new facility.  Want to know what it will look like? Click the video on the right to take a video tour.

Dedicatory opportunities are available, but don't wait, as opportunities are limited!  To make a commitment to the future of Seafarers' House at Port Everglades, contact Jennifer Stewart at jennifer.s@seafarershouse.org or by calling 954-734-1583.

Make a difference in the life of a mariner today!
As a place of welcome in Port Everglades, we host nearly 150,000 mariner visits a year.  From sailors and crew to port workers, we provide spiritual support and practical care for all who come through our doors.  Did you know that a gift of $50 makes it possible for our chaplains to offer prayers and peace to visitors for a month?  Make a difference today .
