Hi friend,
It was First Advent Sunday. I was responsible for the children’s feature at morning worship. I called the children forward and began a conversation with them. I asked them if they knew what Sunday it was?
Blank stares.
I began telling them about First Advent and the season of anticipating Christmas, when we would celebrate Jesus’ birthday. I also described how Mary and Joseph travelled to Bethlehem and all that happened on that journey. I was just finishing my description when one of the children said loud enough for the whole congregation to hear, “Hey, I saw that movie!” Indeed, she had.
John writes, “The word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory…” (John 1:14).
One of the things I love the most about MDS is what I have seen. Not a movie. Not the birth of Jesus over 2000 years ago. I see Jesus’ body living out God’s love. I observe Jesus followers repairing and rebuilding ‘dwellings,’ all the while restoring hope. And somehow, through a miracle of his grace, Jesus makes his dwelling in our midst to offer love, peace, and hope to homeowners and communities. It’s even better than the movie!
