Men's basketball team aims to beat school's "most wins" record

The Bishop State men's basketball team is currently scripting an extraordinary narrative this season. With a commanding 21-3 record, the Wildcats are currently in 1st place in Region 22 at 8-0 in conference play. With 21 wins, they are tied for the most wins in school history, the first 20-win season in 3 decades.


Catch the Wildcats in action as they strive to extend their winning streak this Monday, February 5, 2024, when they square off against Lawson State Community College. The men's clash tips off at 7:30 p.m. Don't miss it!

Lady Wildcats' hard work paying off

The Lady Wildcats basketball team is having a great season. They are 15-7 for the season and 6-2 in conference play. But even more impressive, these ladies have multiple D1 offers, have been named Player of the Week, and have scored career-high points.


You have two more opportunities to catch them in action at home including tonight Monday, February 5, 2024, when they square off against Lawson State Community College. The action-packed evening kicks off at 5:30 p.m.

Giving Back in Athletics

The Wildcats baseball team partnered with the Mobile Mobsters

(Mobile's Organized Baseball Society Teaching Every Relevant Skills) in January to host a free pitching & catching clinic to high school baseball teams and coaches within Mobile County Public Schools.


Watch them in action at home on Tuesday, February 6 at 1 p.m. as they play Coastal Alabama - South.

Coach Higginbothem and the Lady Wildcats softball team volunteered during Skills USA to help direct traffic, keep scores, pass out food, and run materials throughout the campus. We appreciate them for getting up early on a Friday morning to be here to greet and direct visiting students.


The Lady Wildcats's season begins on Feb. 8 with the first home game on Mon. Feb. 26 a doubleheader against Meridian Community College at Noon and 2:30 p.m.

Bishop State Hosts 2024 Coastal Alabama Leadership Educational Summit

Bishop State, in partnership with the Mobile Chamber of Commerce, hosted more than 100 legislators from all over the state for the 2024 Coastal Alabama Leadership Educational Summit. They toured our Gene Haas Center for Advanced Manufacturing Technology and participated in a workforce development panel. They were impressed with our faculty, facilities, and Bishop State as a whole. We were certainly glad to have them visit our campus!

Skills USA Southwest District Competition at Bishop State

Bishop State kicked off Career Technical Education Month by hosting the Alabama Skills USA Southwest District Competition. Congratulations to all of the winners and participants of the Alabama SkillsUSA Southwest District competition. They are very talented students who are working to become skilled professionals, career-ready leaders, and responsible community members. #CTEMonth

Bishop State and Mobile County Probate Court partner to host mock election

Bishop State partnered with the Mobile County Probate Court to host a mock election for Bishop State students. The event was designed to educate participants about the voting process. Student ambassadors served as poll workers and helped their peers through the voting process.



Judge of Probate Don Davis, Mobile County’s Chief Elections Officer was on-site to address the students as well as Student Success Coach and City Councilman Cory Penn.

Leading Ladies

Miss Bishop State Community College, Kadeidra Henderson, represented our student body at the January Mobile Rotary Club meeting. Miss Bishop State is just one of our many student success stories.


She is pictured here with Chancellor Jimmy Baker of the Alabama Community College System.

Dominque Bernard is the recipient of the Youth Ambassadors Award for People United to Advance the Dream Mobile (PUADM), Inc.


Students are nominated for the awards based on their actions and moral integrity that aligns with Dr. King's Message and moral position for all mankind.

Congratulations to Tamara Wills! The Health Information Technology (HIT) student has been chosen for the 2024 Pioneer Health Intern Program representing Bishop State Community College as a Health Tech/Innovation Intern! She will be working with Apple, Southern Company, and Propel HBCU Innovation. She will participate virtually, in-person, and be paid for her contributions and participation.  

Scholars' Bowl Competition

The Bishop State Community College Scholars' Bowl team attended the Alabama State Sectionals tournament at Wallace State Community College in January.


Our students defeated Northeast Mississippi Community College (B) and Enterprise State Community College (2x). Team captain, Jadan Gainey ranked as the 5th competitor overall in the tournament. Great job, Team!

Fix It Program Graduation

Congratulations to the latest graduates of the Fix It Multi-Crafts Construction Trades program! The five graduates earned several credentials and certifications.


This program is a no-cost opportunity for eligible young people between the ages of 17-24 who are out of school and out of work. This training will allow participants to prepare themselves for meaningful work in the construction industry.

College Transfer Day

Representatives from more than 20 four-year colleges and universities from around the state were on our campus for College Transfer Day! Bishop State students got a chance to talk with recruiters about transfer opportunities and scholarships. Recruiters also answered their questions and provided recruitment materials to help students decide where they will continue their education after Bishop State!

Culinary Arts takes the (cup)cake

at the King Cake-Off!

Congratulations to the Culinary Arts program for participating in the King Cake-Off for the third year in a row! They did not get the repeat People's Choice Award they were looking for (Congrats to Vigor High School!), but their Cinnamon Swirl Cupcakes were a hit!

IMPACT at Bishop State


There was a great turnout fot the IMPACT Open House event held at the Erich Heine Learning Center at AM/NS Calvert’s training facility. IMPACT is an advanced manufacturing summer internship program for 11th and 12th grade students.

Join the Health Sciences department for its virtual informational sessions on the third Thursday of each month from 12pm-1pm. Adult Education instructor Connie Pugh was honored by the Alabama Community College System and Bishop State Adult Education. She was awarded the “Gold Star Teacher Award! CONGRATULATIONS!

President Charles was the keynote speaker for the  Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. lunch and learn celebration with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District.

Bishop State was a sponsor for the Blacks in Government Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast. The organization provided a scholarship for Bishop State students.

Dr. Khalilah Burton served as the keynote speaker for the People United to Advance the Dream Awards Gala.
