As we bring 2023 to a close, we have an opportunity to reflect on the success of 2023 while we look forward to new opportunities in 2024!

Bishop State Sees a 20% Increase

in Fall 2023 Enrollment

Bishop State Community College experienced a surge in fall enrollment for 2023, with a total of 3,569 students enrolled as of December 1.

This represents a 20% jump from the fall 2022 enrollment of 2,968 students, underscoring the college's continued commitment to providing accessible, high-quality education to the Mobile and Washington Counties.  

Bishop State Ranks No. 1 in the State

for NC3 Credentials

as of November 21, 2023

Congratulations to Bishop State and all our programs that issue NC3 certifications for ranking number 1 in the state by a 2:1 margin! Bishop State is also ranked fifth in the nation for NC3 certifications issued!!

The National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3) certification supplements a school's existing curriculum with theory and hands-on practice utilizing world-class equipment and tools. Students graduate with the most up-to-date knowledge and competencies valued and required by employers.

Join the Health Sciences department for its virtual informational sessions on the third Thursday of each month from 12pm-1pm. Congratulations Team Wildcat TKO for winning the 2023 #DisneyOnTheYard Innovation Challenge! The four-member team each won a $4,000 scholarship and a $10,000 grant for Bishop State. Great job, Team!

Bishop State has the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be the temporary home of an original sketch by Vincent Van Gogh! The exhibit will be on display in the Bishop State Main campus library until May 2025. The exhibit is now open to the public. Be sure to stop by!

In honor of the Van Gogh sketch on campus, A Starry Night at Bishop State Community College was born. This artwork is a collaborative painting in the style of Vincent van Gogh by students, faculty, and staff at Bishop State. The piece was designed and led by Ginger Woechan of Mobile, Alabama. This initiative is sponsored by the Alpha Epsilon Nu chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.

This artwork will be distributed statewide as the cover art of the 2023 Bishop State Community College Holiday Card. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the painting!

Bishop State Ambassadors and Sanford the Wildcat helped welcome Santa Claus to his temporary position at the Bel Air Mall! It was a grand parade complete with Azalea Trail Maids, the Grand Bay Middle School Dance Team, South Paw and Miss Pawla from South Alabama, and the Conde Express.

The Bishop State Choir provided musical entertainment inside the mall while people waited in line to take pictures with Santa. It was a great outreach and engagement opportunity and kids loved the opportunity to take a picture with Sanford!

Congratulations to our Chancellor’s Award winners! They were recognized during the Chancellors Awards at the Alabama Community College Association Annual Conference on November 19, 2023.

Bishop State had an incredible attendance at ACCA. In addition to the attendance, several colleagues, including Chancellor Baker, made public and positive remarks about where we are as a college. Several of our faculty and staff are being viewed as statewide experts and collaborators on college initiatives.
