Bishop State’s accreditation has been officially reaffirmed by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) through 2035, with zero recommendations from the review committee. This rare achievement reflects the unity, dedication, and excellence of our faculty, staff, students, and community partners, and affirms the College’s ability to serve and strengthen our region.

Mobile’s rich history has landed on the Monopoly game board, and Bishop State is one of the star properties! The new Mobile, Alabama edition of Monopoly showcases the city’s landmarks, traditions, and local treasures, and we’re proud to be part of the game with a spot on the board as well as two Community Chest cards. Whether you’re rolling the dice for fun or collecting your “Wildcat Scholarship,” it’s a win for our community spirit!

The Welding Technology Department is celebrating another big win! Nine Bishop State students have landed job offers at Ingalls Shipbuilding, with starting pay ranging between $23 - $25 an hour. Congratulations to Al’Janeria Lapsley, Eric Martin, Gregory Grove, Jalaya Richardson, Javoris Henry, Mario Smith, Paris Richardson, Paris Jones, and Takala Caffie. Did You Know... Bishop State has a Lactation Pod for Nursing Mothers?

Bishop State now offers a private, sanitary lactation pod for nursing mothers, providing a safe space to pump without missing valuable class time. A nursing student shared how this addition eased her worries about balancing school and caring for her newborn. The pod is located in the Nursing Building and is open to all Wildcat moms who need it.

Wildcat Roar of Appreciation!

Bishop State was proud to attend the July and August Forum Alabama events, hosted by the Mobile Chamber of Commerce. July’s speaker, Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth, and August’s speaker, U.S. Rep. Shomari Figures, shared valuable insights on policies shaping our state and region. Staying informed helps us continue serving as a trusted resource and solution for businesses, industries, and our community.

Bishop State partnered with the Department of Public Safety, the Mayor’s Office, the Mobile Film Office, and students from the Mobile Film Office Shadow Program to produce a short film aimed at preventing youth violence. This short film explores a conflict between two local students and shows the consequences of the choices they make to resolve it.

Bishop State Community College is continuing to combat food insecurity, this time by stepping outside the campus gates. As part of its Food Insecurity Initiative and in connection with its recently awarded $7,000 IMPACT Grant, Bishop State’s Phi Theta Kappa honor society has launched a new volunteer program in partnership with Love All Pantry, a local food pantry serving families across Mobile.

President Olivier Charles joined leaders from across the region as a workforce development panelist at the Latino Opportunity Summit, hosted by the Hispanic and Immigrant Center of Alabama (HICA) and the Hispanic American Business Association of the Gulf Coast (HABAGC). The event celebrated the vital role Latinos play in South Alabama’s economy, from education and entrepreneurship to small business growth, workforce development, and international trade. Bishop State was proud to be part of this important conversation shaping our community’s future.

Bishop State is now on display at the Mobile Airport! Keep an eye out for our billboard as you head to your gate, and spot our ads on all the digital screens in baggage claim and at the gates. It’s just one more way we’re sharing the Wildcat spirit with travelers from near and far.

Summer Camp



The Health Science Exploratorium is an innovative one-day camp designed to ignite students' passion for healthcare careers and provide hands-on experience, insight, and knowledge about Nursing, Physical Therapist Assistant, and Health Information Technology professions.

GLAM Camp

GLAM (Girls Learning About Manufacturing)  Camp is a free four-day camp designed to introduce rising 6th–8th grade girls to the world of modern manufacturing and STEM careers in a fun, engaging, and hands-on environment. They engaged with activities from Austal, AM/NS Calvert, Airbus Flight Works, and Evonik.

JROTC Campus Tour

For the third year in a row, Bishop State welcomed the JROTC STEM Leadership Camp. This time the theme was “STEM on the Water” for the Maritime Industry. 150 students joined us for a hands-on tour of our Welding & Shipfitting area, where they observed students in the booths, oxyfuel cutting, and more.



We are honored to receive the inaugural HBCU Juneteenth Spirit Award from The Maynard 4 Foundation! The award was presented during the Miss Juneteenth Scholarship Brunch. This award celebrates the vital role HBCUs and HBCCs play in shaping future leaders and uplifting communities.

Thank you to the Maynard 4 Foundation for recognizing the impact of our students, faculty, and community.

From campus to campus, exciting facility projects are underway across all Bishop State sites. These upgrades will enhance learning spaces, improve student experiences, and ensure our campuses continue to meet the needs of our growing Wildcat Family. These projects include, but are not limited to: 

• Remodeling the Barbering facility at Carver Site (in design)
• New truck driving facility (in design)
• Preparation for the Southwest Site grand reopening
• New Bishop State site for rural healthcare education
