IA-01 Update From Congresswoman Hinson

I spent this week traveling through Iowa's First District to meet with constituents, groups, businesses, local leaders to hear about how they serve Iowans and how I can best serve them in Congress! We had tours and meetings in Northwood, Osage, Lime Springs, Decorah, Waukon, Elkader, Fayette, Manchester, and Cedar Rapids. It was great to tour shop floors, meet with students, hear from those who serve our veterans, and discuss the state of our agriculture industry with farmers. After wrapping up this week, I have been to all 20 counties in Iowa's First District since taking office! It is a top priority for me to hear from Iowans across the district and receive real world feedback to bring back to Washington. I am ready to get straight to work on priorities for our community.

I also had the opportunity to participate in a bipartisan briefing with federal health officials to learn more about new variants of COVID-19 and discuss vaccination efforts. The COVID-19 vaccine is proving to be effective against the new variants of this virus, and ensuring we are getting more doses to Iowans is my top priority. I met with Hy-Vee leaders today to discuss their efforts to administer the vaccine to more Iowans. While challenges remain, I will continue to work with the Administration, the Governor, and the private sector to ensure Iowans are not left behind.

On Wednesday, I held my first telephone town hall! I appreciate everyone who took time out of their busy schedules to join the conversation on topics ranging from tackling our mounting debt, tax policy, and of course an update on the COVID-19 relief bill and vaccination efforts in Iowa. It is important for me to be accessible and transparent and ensure my constituents know where I stand on issues that matter to them. Even though I can't promise we will agree on every issue, I can promise you'll always know where I stand. My top takeaway from the discussion reaffirmed what I've been hearing from folks across the district—Iowans need targeted COVID-19 relief as soon as possible. I look forward to hosting another telephone town hall soon, stay tuned for details!

Facebook Live Conversations
I host a variety of live conversations on my Facebook page to to help increase transparency in our government and to keep Iowans informed about issues that impact them. I will continue to dive into topics that matter to you--make sure you follow me on Facebook so you don't miss out!
Over the past few weeks, Washington's broken federal budgeting process has taken center stage. I've received many questions from Iowans about how this process works and how we can improve it for the benefit of taxpayers. I hosted Doug Holtz-Eakin, President of American Action Forum and former CBO director, for a conversation on my Facebook page to help answer some of your FAQs on the budget. Watch the conversation here.
I've talked to many Iowans about policies to help jumpstart our economy and keep it growing amid the COVID-19 pandemic. I joined Americans for Prosperity for a Facebook live conversation on the pro-growth policies we need to have in place to help create jobs and boost our economy. This includes getting government out of the way and cutting bureaucratic red tape, as well as pushing back against a federally mandated minimum wage. Watch the conversation here.
