Danforth Center Combats Cassava Whitefly 


In an effort to help farmers and families, the Danforth Center, Gates Ag One, and a host of international researchers and organizations have teamed up to combat the cassava whitefly. This pest can cause widespread yield loss of cassava—a staple crop for more than 800 million people. Read more.

Kellogg Receives Danforth Award for Plant Science


In recognition of her remarkable career and scientific achievements, Dr. Elizabeth “Toby” Kellogg was presented with the Danforth Award for Plant Science. Kellogg is one of the world’s foremost experts on wild grasses, the relatives of crop plants, and a member of the National Academy of Sciences. Through her work she has inspired others, advanced the field of plant biology, and helped us better understand our world. Read more.

Fungi for the Future  


Dr. Armando Bravo is leading a new collaboration that aims to improve our ability to grow a special kind of mycorrhizal fungus in the lab. AMF (arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi) provides many benefits to plants, including enhanced nitrogen uptake. By making production of these fungi more efficient, they could be more widely adopted and help bring about a more sustainable agriculture. Read more.
