EAST TEXAS RURAL ELECTRIC YOUTH SEMINAR

Wood County Electric Cooperative (WCEC) is calling for participants for the 28th annual East Texas Rural Electric Youth Seminar (ETREYS). WCEC, along with eight other east Texas electric cooperatives, will host the seminar from June 27- July 1, 2016, at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall.

WCEC offers this all expenses paid trip to ten sophomores and juniors who are attending high school in the WCEC service area. Participants are selected on the basis of overall excellence and involvement in extracurricular activities including leadership positions, academic awards, and civic activities.

While at ETREYS students can expect to participate in workshops, seminars, and peer group activities that range from leadership development to pure entertainment. Nationally-known personalities, college professors, and community leaders are scheduled to speak at this year's event. Additionally, each student has a chance to compete for scholarships.

WCEC is committed to the communities we serve, and sending students to ETREYS is just another way to further that commitment. Students interested in applying can download an application.  The deadline to submit an application is May 2, 2016.

Energy Efficiency Tips

Celebrate Earth Day on April 22nd by giving back to the environment and planting a deciduous tree near your home. Deciduous trees provide extra shade during summer months to keep your home cooler and give your AC a much needed break. And, during the fall deciduous trees lose their leaves allowing sunlight to warm your home.
