SOU Homecoming events include much more than parades and games.
Following are academic presentations that OLLI members are invited to attend. You need not be an alumnus. Please note that all require an
RSVP by Tuesday, October 15.
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 25
- 11:30 am Distinguished Alumni Awards Lunch, Schneider Museum of Art, in celebration of two of the university’s distinguished alumni, Bruce Guenther ’71, retired chief curator, Portland Art Museum; Javier del Rio ’94, MS ’05, assistant superintendent, Phoenix-Talent School District. (Sorry, this one is not free: $25 per person except for class of '69 alumni.)
- 1:30 pm Practicing Democracy, Meese Room, Hannon Library. Honors College students share their experiences learning how Democracy is practiced around the world in post-apartheid Africa, India, and five European countries.
- 2:15 pm Prison Break, Meese Room, Hannon Library. Learn how the U.S. criminal justice system differs from the system in Ireland. SOU students recently visited the Crumlin Road Gaol, the only Victorian-era prison remaining in Northern Ireland, as well as the “peace walls,” erected in the 1960s to keep Loyalists and Republicans apart in Belfast.
