One Foot Expansion Update: Middle School Cafe
We hope you enjoyed the sneak peek at the Middle School Thinking Lab space and curriculum. Excitement continues to grow as we reaching the last phase of our process, and we are taking time to share each of the spaces and details for next year’s transition to three campuses.

This week, we take a closer look at the Middle School Cafe!
When designing the cafe, we wanted it to be a flexible space. The ECS Cafe is a place where students can sit at a table with a teacher, a gather with a large group at a community table, or site quietly at a booth with close friends. This is an important time outside the classrooms for students to relax with their friends, build community, and take a break to take care of themselves. Taking time to nourish bodies and relax in a beautiful space are important to the entire learning experience at ECS. We also wanted to maintain our commitment to composting and recycling in our new space, and designed spaces for food scraps and recyclable materials to be collected.

ECS believes that the future success for the next generation is a positive and healthy understanding of food. We strive to bring fresh, kid friendly, exciting and delicious meals to students. ECS partners with Community Kitchen Pittsburgh to supply nutritious meals cooked and prepared locally. Community Kitchen Pittsburgh is a non-profit organization focused on providing culinary training and job placement services for adults experiencing barriers to employment. (Check out their Fish Fry in Hazelwood or one of their chef events in April or May to learn more about their work and commitment to the Pittsburgh community!)

We are committed to providing our students with healthy and fresh meals while keeping cost low and reducing food waste. Remember, our food is at least 85% made from scratch and never frozen! Do you have questions about the ECS school lunch program or are you interested in learning more about what we do to support healthy food choices for students? Stay tuned! We will share details about start times, schedules, transportation questions, and moving logistics.

Support Us As We Grow!
ECS grows citizens. And we are expanding our campuses to support additional students at every grade level and to continue our mission-based program through the high school years. Growth in space allows us to developmentally right-size our schools, support the demand for our program, and expand opportunities for students.
Will you help us as we grow?
