Volume 7 No. 5 |January 31, 2025

Notes from the Editor:

If you thought January was a busy month, just consider it a dress rehearsal for February. Readers who have been paying attention and taking notes have their dance cards filled, with an eraser handy for last minute changes (or to make room for one more thing.) Festivals are in abundance, from Gardenfest! to ArtsFest! to the Zora Festival in Eatonville to the festival in Mizner Park. Map out your weekend, ready your comfy shoes, load your wagon in the car (Gardenfest), and remember to hydrate!

This Arts Blast offers news of plenty of things to do but there are far more that we can't fit in. Make the Arts Blast calendar at willimiller.com a frequent stop.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you're responsible for promoting an arts-related event, send in details using the format at the end of this email. There's no charge for basic calendar listings but your advertising flyer that includes a link to your website will do more to catch readers' attention. Email for advertising information in Arts Blast and Arts Blast on the Air.
Please support small, local businesses. Arts Blast is one of them, so if you have an event coming up, or something artsy to sell or teach, consider advertising it in Arts Blast and/or Arts Blast on the Air!
Gardenfest!
This once a year spectacular 2-day botanical festival attracts 25,000 to 30,000 gardeners AND 80 + vendors. Plenty of parking. Bring your wagon!
From the Garden Club of Indian River County:
Gardenfest! is always a huge success thanks to all our amazing volunteers, top notch vendors, and all of you who attended! Natures finest marketplace is held at Vero Beach’s Riverside Park, and is one of the largest free and family friendly garden shows in Florida.
Visitors come from far and wide to stroll under the oaks and enjoy the amazing vendors, food, children’s crafts,and raffle prizes. Many visitors arrive with wagon in tow and fill them with garden treasures.
This annual event is hosted by the Garden Club of Indian River County and celebrates everything garden. Over twenty years have been spent scouring the south to bring together the highest quality vendors of plants and garden accessories.
Gardenfest! vendors prepare their displays with great skill and care to show gardeners the latest trends in plant materials and design.
They are pleased to offer Florida natives, unusual tropicals, and unique plant specimens, as well as plants, planters, pottery, fountains, furniture, lighting, statuary, and other garden accessories. Plants for sale include palms, ferns, orchids, bromeliads, succulents, bamboo, fruit trees, bonsai, roses and many flowering plants.
Proceeds from Gardenfest! help fund the club’s local scholarships and community outreach programs. Community outreach programs are aimed at enhancing, preserving, and beautifying the landscape of Indian River County.
Garden enthusiasts of all levels look forward to experiencing Vero’s premier annual gardening event Gardenfest! Rain or Shine!
An email from Aaron Collins, conductor and artistic director of the Space Coast Symphony:
"At the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra, we are counting our blessings for supporters like you.
For a look at "promises made and kept," consider that the SCSO has taken the "stuffy" out of orchestral concerts and provided a greater cross section of our community with access to excellent musical experiences -- at a truly affordable price! We perform year-round, employing some of Florida’s finest musicians. And we continue to mentor young talent and educate young audience members, to keep the symphonic tradition alive for future generations. We have brought Brevard and Indian River Counties over 1000 different programs, more than any other arts organization.
"With your help, the SCSO can continue to bring exciting and enjoyable programs to YOU!  Won't you help us today? Your donation (of any size) would really help your Space Coast Symphony Orchestra in this moment. Your donation would also help us in our outreach to children and students. Truly, your gift of support helps keep the music going.
We are grateful beyond words that you continue to stand behind our orchestra. On behalf of our musicians-- and our entire organization --please accept our warmest wishes and heartfelt thanks. Once again, we are sorry to have to ask, but we are in desperate need."
Arts4All Florida
The Arts4All Collective is now OPEN! The Collective, funded in part by the Florida Department of State- Division of Arts and Culture and the National Endowment for the Arts, was designed to provide online exposure for artists with disabilities from our Artist Registry, helping us meet one of our guiding principles: that all individuals with disabilities who aspire to careers in the arts deserve opportunities to develop, strengthen and monetize their skills. We hope you enjoy viewing the incredible artwork of our artists.
VISIT THE ARTS4ALL COLLECTIVE HERESee some of the extraordinary work of the Collective Artists at this year’s Gasparilla Festival of the Arts on March 1st and 2nd at the Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park in Tampa.
Meet our artists…Miami Lighthouse for the Blind
We are proud to continue to grow our partnership with Miami Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Their talented artists have long contributed to our exhibitions across the state, so it's a natural step for them to join our Collective as a Partnering Organization. Miami Lighthouse for the Blind artists often collaborate in tactile multi-media, creatively using glass beads, colored sands, textiles, wood and paints to create dazzling and memorable artwork.
The Florida Young Performers program is designed to identify and offer performance opportunities to talented students throughout the state. Now in its 18th year, this extraordinary performing arts program recognizes accomplished students that have a disability, ages 14-24, in music, dance, and theatre performance. Two emerging artists from each category will be selected by a panel of judges that are professionals in their specific field of performance. All applicants will receive adjudication scores and personal written critiques that can be used to improve and refine their performance skills as they continue to develop.
Winners of each category will be given the opportunity to perform at professional venues and/or virtual performance events that will be determined each year and will receive an Amazon gift card.
For more information on the program and for the online application, follow this linkto the Arts4All Florida Young Performers webpage.
The application deadline is February 3, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. EST.
