Wake One Water Update

Spring is here! As we move through 2025, Wake County is hard at work advancing the Wake One Water Plan. Recent weather extremes - from January’s bitter cold to record-high February temperatures - remind us of the need to prepare for uncertainty and its impact on our water resources. The Wake One Water Plan is doing just that. Through strong partnerships with Wake County’s twelve municipalities, we are working to evaluate stormwater, wastewater, and drinking water supplies to help ensure we have resilient water resources to support our communities, businesses and the environment.

What is happening with One Water?

We are currently wrapping up our technical assessments, which have given us valuable insights into our water resources and how they may be affected by population growth, land development, and climate change. Based upon the challenges and opportunities identified, Wake County and municipal partners developed draft strategies for stormwater, wastewater, surface water and groundwater. In March, Wake County will conduct a series of Community Input Sessions to gain community input on proposed strategies. The meetings will include:

  • A presentation about the One Water Plan and project work to date
  • Information about the upcoming public survey and additional feedback opportunities for the draft One Water Plan
  • An opportunity to ask questions about the One Water Plan project
  • The opportunity for you to provide feedback on the draft One Water Strategies through Mentimeter and written comments/feedback, so please bring your smart phone to participate!

What’s Next?

In April 2025, we will be conducting a countywide public survey.  One Water isn't just about ensuring we have enough clean water. It's also about how it benefits our communities, helps local businesses succeed and protects our environment, so stay tuned and stay engaged!
