Wake County Launches Campaign to Highlight the Critical Importance of Water
After natural disasters like Hurricane Helene, which hit western North Carolina hard and left people without basic resources, the need for reliable water access becomes even more evident. That’s why Wake County is developing a 50-year One Water plan. This plan focuses on securing sustainable water supply and ensuring that everyone has access to clean water. From conservation efforts to supporting larger projects like One Water, we all have a role to play in protecting our water for future generations.
On October 17, Wake County is joining the national Imagine a Day Without Water campaign, now in its 10th year. This event highlights the vital role water plays in our daily lives and raises awareness about the need for sustainable water management. As part of this effort, we’re launching a series of interviews and a social media campaign featuring stories from educators, farmers, students and business owners, sharing why water is important and how they are contributing to conservation. These stories will be shared on our website and social media!
Plus, don’t miss a short video from our recent visit to the Neuse River Resource Recovery Facility and the new Bioenergy Recovery Project! The Wake County Water Partnership team recently toured the Neuse River Resource Recovery Facility and the new Bioenergy Recovery Project, where they saw firsthand how wastewater, groundwater and surface water are interconnected through the One Water approach. It’s a perfect example of the work being done to protect our water resources!
