THIS WEEK IN DOVER

GENERAL ASSEMBLY ADJOURNS NEXT WEEK

Today wraps up the last day before the final week of session for the 152nd General Assembly. They were off on Wednesday in observance of Juneteenth, so it was a shorter week than normal. However, a couple bills which the State Chamber is following saw movement this week, including:

  • HB 433 (Unemployment Insurance)
  • HB 439 (Housing Status Discrimination In Housing and Property)
  • HB 440 (Housing Status Discrimination In Employment and Professional Activities)

Other bills which may see movement next week include HS 1 for HB 248 and HB 422, among others. ... The State Chamber will send out an End-of-Session policy recap after the General Assembly gavels out for the year on June 30th. Read more >

THE GROWTH STRATEGY THAT MOST

SMALL BUSINESSES IGNORE

What if I told you there was a way to capture more market share in your industry, diversify your risk, and gain a competitive advantage in today’s challenging business climate?

Let me tell you more about this strategy:

  • The Fortune 500 have been doing it for decades and are still investing heavily in resources.
  • Over 64% of US Small Businesses do this already, and it accounts for 20% of their profits.

RECENT CHANGES IN DELAWARE EMPLOYMENT LAW

In recent years, the Delaware General Assembly has introduced and passed legislation aimed at strengthening employee rights. While these efforts are positive for employees, some aspects create unintended consequences for small and mid-sized businesses. Increased regulatory complexity could make day-to-day operations more burdensome, potentially discouraging new business formation and impacting the growth of existing companies. These changes might make hiring decisions more challenging for employers, impacting overall workforce levels in the State. Read more >

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Immigration, authorized or unauthorized, is a challenging topic. In a CNBC story released this morning—How immigrants are helping to keep job growth hot while inflation cools—a blockbuster May jobs report asserts that “immigration has helped the U.S. job market sustain a fiery run in recent months without reigniting inflation.” Goldman Sachs analysts wrote this in a note to clients in May: “Recent immigrants have flowed disproportionately into the parts of the labor force that were particularly tight in 2022, contributing to labor supply in places where it was most badly needed.” Read more >
