FROM
FLORIDA'S
TREASURE COAST & BEYOND
As you're reading this issue of Arts Blast , I'm off on Christmas holiday. No, not skiing in New England or cruising the Caribbean, but picking up my Christmas gift to myself, a new shoulder. It was delivered to Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital by Dr. George Nichols and will enjoy its first Christmas sitting by a faux fireplace, relaxing in a comfy recliner, being pampered this week before the hard work starts after Christmas.

While I'm working on getting back up to speed by the end of the year, I'll have time to reflect on this first year of Arts Blast and think about what I want the second year to be. If you have ideas or suggestions, send them along. I know I'll make some changes to advertising options, maybe add a feature or two. And I'm determined to master Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, and all those other social media platforms that help get the word out.

This will be a busy couple of weeks!

When You Need a Little Christmas,
Call the Mistletones!
From the Mistletones:

For the 8th year, the singing Mistletones plan a holiday repertoire, then take it on the road. Most of the performers are elite members of the Indian River Charter High School’s Performing Arts Department. This is a volunteer project, done as a labor of love.
... “It is so nice to see the smiles on their faces,” said Michala Callahan, (a Mistletone for the last four years.) While Michala heads off to college in 2020, she hopes to still be a part of the Mistletones during her holiday break next year.
Another Mistletones’ veteran and high school senior is Jessica Griffin . “It is so heartwarming to know we are touching the lives of our audiences. Although many are in wheelchairs, we love to see them sway to the music and sing along with the holiday favorites,” said Jessica.
Alison Niederpruem is a new member of the Mistletones. Alison has a star-studded resume of great local performances at Riverside Theatre and the Charter High School. In early 2020, she will play Guinevere in an upcoming production of Camelot. Alison commented, “It is so much fun to join my friends in this community service project! ..."
Angelina Dubois is also a returning member and is a sophomore at IRCHS. Angelina said, “...This year, we are adding songs we recently performed at a competition. ... We are so happy to meet the residents and just take time to talk. ...”
Lily Jaramillo has been involved with the group since its inception. She also continues a project she adopted the year of the Sandy Hook attack, delivering 26 holiday baskets to Veterans in memory of the children and teachers that lost their lives that day. “It’s a pay-it-forward project I promised myself I would continue, always. ..."
Rounding out this year’s Mistletones cast is Charlotte Nafe, a veteran Riverside Children’s Theatre performer. Also a Sophomore at Charter, she brings tremendous talent to the group and is delighted to be a part of it. “... We spend our holidays focused on what we can do for others and that is truly the spirit of the season.”
If you know of a group that would benefit from an appearance by the Mistletones, call their producer, Sally Dillon at 772-778-2832.

From Vero Beach Opera:

GREAT NEWS!!!
"We’ve Come a Long Way, Baby!”

Few communities our size offer such a broad selection of cultural arts, and people are surprised to learn that there is an opera company here which offers professional performances by world-class opera stars.

One year ago, VBO kicked off our  $300,000 Endowment Challenge  to benefit our  VBO Endowment Fund  established by Tommy and Simonetta Steyer in 2015 through the Indian River Community Foundation. This year we have raised over $111,000 for our Endowment in an ongoing effort to support the long-term sustainability of VBO. It will enable us to continue to bring outstanding Opera productions to our community along with a wide array of Concerts and Vocal Competitions for many years to come. This source of income will further sustain and help VBO grow not only with a stronger presence as a regional opera company but also with national and international reach.

The  Great News  is that just this week Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Steyer have “gifted” VBO with additional funds for the Endowment – a  $50,000 Challenge  - and a  Legacy “gift!”  It is Mr. Steyer’s intention that his gift of $50,000 be an incentive for others to donate to the Endowment Fund with at least $50,000 in pledges for gifts (either present or legacy) by June 15, 2020.

We strive to make a difference in our community, and your deeply appreciated support helps make all that we do possible. Please consider supporting us in achieving this ongoing worthwhile goal.   Now is a good time to do it since it is almost the end of the year! All donations are appreciated!
