ONE MORE WEEK OF SUMMER PROGRAMS
While the Summer Learning Challenge runs through August, our special summer programs are wrapping up next week. If you've yet to make it to our Stories in the Park, our last visit will be to Stulsaft Park on July 25. For kids ages K-3 who wish to learn about American heroes, our Great Americans series has two more Fridays. If you missed Great Americans, we have a reading list for you! Camp Early Learners and Little Learners concludes next Monday. To find all the details on these and more events happening this month, visit our Summer Learning Challenge page.

If you've loved our summer performances at the Downtown Library, Magical Bridge Playground and Redwood Shores Branch Library, don't miss our final two performers:

Ever wonder how the Redwood City Public Library provides amazing programs and events during the summer and all year long? It’s because of The Friends of the Redwood City Public Library! 100% of their book sales go toward library events and programs for all ages. NEWS FROM THE FOUNDATION
Redwood City Library Foundation's Upscale Pub Crawl in 2022 was a great success - attendees had fun while learning about banned books and helping raise funds to support library initiatives. Book banning is still a critical issue with attacks on books, libraries and librarians escalating. Books are being banned, budgets slashed, librarians harassed and among some, the entire concept of public libraries is being questioned.

The 2nd Annual Upscale Pub Crawl will be on October 11, 2023.  Here are two ways that you can support the library by getting more involved:

1. Schedule the October meeting of your book club (or other group) to gather at the Pub Crawl on October 11. Walk around Redwood City with your friends while enjoying libations at local pubs and learning about the very real issue of book banning in schools and libraries. Purchase discount tickets ($40) before September 8 and get more information here.

2. VOLUNTEER: We will need volunteers to greet attendees at participating pubs during the event and to share information about the banned books featured at each location. There will be one training session in September to outline duties and assign locations, but otherwise your volunteer commitment would be from approximately 5-9pm on October 11th. Fill out the volunteer form on our website at https://www.rclfdn.org/volunteer or send email to rclf-info@redwoodcity.org with any questions.

We hope to see you there!

Jungle James

Our Summer Learning Challenge performances are coming to a close but the finale is sure to be wild! There are four opportunities to see Jungle James and his amazing critters on July 25 and 26.

On July 20 at 7pm, join us for an evening of live poetry featuring local poet Lois Fried and her new book, So Great the Journey: Love is all there is to give freely.

"Lois Fried’s poetry has a generous view of the world, optimistic, up-beat, and she’s interested in everything before her eyes. She is a winner, even with broken ribs or family losses, she finds the bright side of her blessings or, at the least, learning experiences.” —Peter Neil Carroll, Poet, Historian and Author
