Santa Fe Recognized Internationally as
One of 10 Best Cities for Art Lovers

January 26, 2022In identifying the most art-centric and culture-filled cities around the world, a new survey by Money.co.uk says that Santa Fe hangs in the same gallery as Venice, Vienna, Miami, and Milan. Travel + Leisure magazine recently posted an article, “The 10 Best Cities in the World for Art Lovers,” based on the United Kingdom financial website’s 2021 survey.

Santa Fe ranked #7 overall, with only two U.S. cities ranking higher: Miami at #2 and San Francisco in the #5 spot. Seattle also made the top 10 list in the #8 place.

Elsewhere in the survey’s categories, Santa Fe is recognized as the world’s best city for both art galleries and museums.

Mayor Alan Webber says: “Santa Fe is not just the State Capitol; we’re also a world capitol for arts and culture. We make art, we promote art, we market art—but most importantly, we live art. That’s in our DNA as a community and as a people.”

“It is an honor to have Santa Fe’s art and culture scene ranked so highly when compared to major international destinations,” said Randy Randall, executive director of TOURISM Santa Fe. “Acknowledgment from surveys like this show our city can hold its own in delivering a world-class experience for art lovers and provides essential validation to what we know is a major strength of Santa Fe’s visitor offering.”

Money.co.uk conducted this study in 2021 to find the best art- and culture-filled cities around the world. The study used a variety of data points to rank 40 global destinations already known for their unique arts and culture scenes. Ranking criteria included obvious factors like the number of galleries, museums, and sculptures, but also took into account variables, such as street art and highly rated art universities and colleges, to give a more complete picture of each city's offerings.
