JOY ROAD
One week away from Beyond Basics Family Literacy Center fundraiser

One week from today on Oct. 17, Beyond Basics is hosting our fundraiser and grand opening for the inaugural Beyond Basics Family Literacy Center. Thanks to the generosity of our founding partner General Motors we will start to bring literacy to Detroit neighborhoods!

We encourage everyone to come to tour our new center where we will provide literacy support, GED and SAT prep and workforce development services to help Detroit-area families from pre-K through adult.

Attendees will also have the chance to tour the unique Durfee Innovation Society, which is a hub of opportunity for children, students and adults. We are thrilled to be located in this collaborative community.

As always, thank you for supporting us and for partnering with me on this journey. Hope to see you next week!
Location of the Event:

Joy Road is the journey Pam Good began that has led to Beyond Basics. It all started when she took Exit 9 to Joy Road years ago to help out at a school in Detroit.

LITERACY IS FOR EVERYONE
It's Time for Our Annual Coat Drive!
Winter is right around the corner, which means it’s time for the Beyond Basics Annual Coat Drive! Each year we partner with principals to get the names of children who do not have a coat for the winter season. Last year, with the help of our generous supporters, we collected and distributed more than 2,000 coats!

Let's keep the momentum going! Don't miss out on your chance to help put winter coats on kids in need!

Thank you to the many individuals and corporations that are collecting coats this year. A special thanks to Pearl Cleaners and Detroit Pencil Company for helping us collect and clean the coats every year!

Donate new or gently used coats (size youth 5 - adult 3X) until November 1st!

If you would like to donate or volunteer during this year’s coat drive, please contact Kim Dundas at [email protected]. Many hands make light work!

Thank you for keeping our students warm this winter!
