How do self awareness, relationships, identity, agency, and other components of TSEL contribute to a richer literacy experience for both teachers and students? This session will move from defining TSEL to analyzing how attention to its components creates an opportunity to enhance the spark for students developing their literary identities as readers, writers, thinkers, and speakers.

It's crucial to select writing tasks that are culturally relevant and align with learning goals. Writing in content areas can be used productively in three ways: to gain relevant knowledge and experience in preparing for new activities, to review and consolidate what is known and learned, and to reformulate and extend ideas and experiences.

Writing is a complex process. Strategies to regulate this process are needed. This study examines the effectiveness of an instructional program aiming to improve middle school students' writing. This program teaches students the knowledge and skills to navigate the planning, drafting, and revising processes.
New Writing Research and News from Our Team

This systematic review provides a summary of the diagnostic accuracy of English language sample analysis (LSA) measures for the identification of developmental language disorder. Several LSA measures or combinations of measures are clinically useful for the identification of developmental language disorder, although more research is needed to 1) replicate findings using rigorous methods and 2) explore measures that are informative for adolescents and across diverse varieties of English.
2022 LRA Distinguished Scholar Award Recipient Announced

The Literacy Research Association is thrilled to announce that Dr. Guadalupe Valdés has been selected by the Distinguished Scholar Lifetime Achievement Award Committee as the 2022 Distinguished Scholar Award Recipient. The award ceremony and presentation will be held at the 2022 LRA Annual Meeting in Phoenix, AZ, November 29th – December 3rd, 2022.
